Hobbies
Anyone else with ADHD get super into a hobby and then randomly lose interest?
I feel like I do this with everything. Guitar, working out, reading, writing, video games, etc.
At first I'm obsessed. I'll spend hours researching it, thinking about it, planning it, and imagining how good I'll get. Then after a while the excitement fades and suddenly it's hard to make myself do it, even if I still want to.
I've struggled with this for years and sometimes it makes me wonder if I actually enjoy the hobby or if I just enjoy the excitement of starting something new.
Do any of you experience this? If so, how do you keep doing a hobby once that initial excitement wears off?
@sterlink
This can be common but it's also human.
We put alot of time into hobbies only for it to tail off!
People with ADHD can be so brilliant, creative, imaginative, fun, vibrant, bring hobbies to life, I don't think it matters how long you give to a hobby ,just that you enjoy it 🥰

Hi @sterlink! Nice to meet you. One way I like to describe myself is consistently inconsistent LOL
I don't like doing the same exact things every day. I crave novelty, but also comfort. I like playing guitar, but sometimes I only feel like playing it once a month because I don't have the patience to practice a song to perfection day after day. I also like to embroider, but that gets too repetitive and I take long breaks from it.
I think the important thing is to be flexible and take breaks when the excitement wears off. Maybe when you return to your hobby you will have fresh, new ideas. Maybe you will feel inspired when you pick it up again.

I do experience this, and every person I know thinks I'm not constant and reliable in taking care of what I like.
My recent strategy is learning thinks that no one is expecting me to persue, like I've recently tried to weld, I've been to a pottery painting, a single day course to make your own perfume.
Zero expectations, zero stress, I'm looking forward to go back to my hobbies (embroidery and Legos), I also try to enjoy the feeling of wanting to do a hobby, plan it in to my head and allowinh myself to feel deeply the "looking forward feeling"
Yes all the time.
