I am scared.
Hello.
Background 1: I am a girl in my early 20s and I deal with anxiety. I can't share this with my brother because he would also just be worried along with me and won't be able to do anything and he is the one I go to for such tension.
Also somewhere along the way you might feel that this post belongs more to reddit than 7cups but it is here because I am scared to face the reality if it's going to be bad. This post is more about my fear and inability to deal with it than a tech issue.
Background 2: a few months back my laptop broke. I was still trying to manage with it till I get it repaired but I got a job and there are heavily proctored online assessments in the training process. I was suggested to get a new one as my previous laptop was old and the processor was unable to handle the load of the projects I made plus the various assessments I have during job hunting. Also due to the excess heating one of the speakers distorted.
My initial thoughts were to get a cheap one which just gets me by. Since I am not smart I discussed with one of my tech savy friends that I was considering hp which would cost around INR 92k. He suggested mac air. My brother also discussed with his friends and a few also suggested mac to him. In my hometown only midnight mac air m5 was available so we took that on emi for the machine. We went out of our budget to get a good device you know.
I had read about mac air not having fan and heat decipating through body but my friend assured it is not a problem and it's far superior then hp. Keeping hope with God we did get it a week back. I and my brother have been exploring it together.
Trouble: yesterday while transferring files it got heated but I researched and cake to know it indexes large files hence it was normal so I calmed down. However, today I attended my first training session on teams with it. Along with running eclipse on it. It heated up the upper middle of the keyboard because that's where the processor is. And I am so so scared now because to avoid this we had taken a step outside our budget. Say three steps tbh.
Since it was so expensive I felt happy it would last around 7-8 years minimum. Now I am so so frightened that if it would at least go as far as my current hp.
I already was scared getting such an expensive thing and kept getting nightmares of having to get it repaired within first month.
I am at a lose. I don't even exactly know what I expect from the community here. Maybe educate me on the devices further, maybe console me. I just want this to be fixed.
Hi there. I am sorry you're dealing with this persistent worry over your computer. I can't say I can be much help in that area, but I greatly understand the worry of buying something over budget and stressing on how long it will actually last. I struggle with this a LOT myself. I have had my fair share of laptops over the years and have never had one that did not warm up during heavy use. Is there any warranty that covers it for a certain period of time? A lot of these things are just luck of the draw, and you get what you pay for. It was a bit out of the budget but it seems that will pay off in the long run, and I hope it does. Best wishes to you, and I will be keeping my fingers crossed 🤞 that your computer lasts way longer than you'd expect it to.
