Mild depression is getting worse

I've had mild depression and anxiety since I was a young teen, I'm now 35 and my anxiety has gotten worse slowly as I've aged but just recently about 2 months ago I noticed my depression has been getting a lot worse. I feel like I can't function and I'm tired all the time but I either sleep too much or not enough and it doesn't seem to matter because I never feel rested. I don't have health care and I'm too broke to pay for the professional help I very clearly need out of pocket. I don't know where to turn and I don't know how to get help when I have no money or health insurance. I'm just so tired...

@RaevynWynter hi not sure where you live but there should be somewhere that you can get free help. Psychologist/therapist/counselor and maybe medication if needed. Have you done any research to see if there are any free clinics or programs?

I haven't because I'm just not sure where to start. I live in Michigan and I've only lived here for a little over a year now. So I don't really know the area or what's out there. Any tips for where to start?

I just looked it up. Go to Michigan.gov or Google mental health services in your area. You will find something I’m pretty darn sure 😊

@RaevynWynter Hi. You may be able to successfully address depression on your own. Watch this 20 min video for more info. If you have questions about how it helped me I’ll be glad to tell you more.

@CDK1972 Awesome! It was one of the best, most useful book I have ever read. “Feeling Good Together,” also by Burns, was also one of the most useful books ever.

Try calling the suicide hotline. It doesn't matter if you feel suicidal or not. Your call will be routed to your area. You can talk to someone who can offer resources for you. That's what I tried when I felt so much anxiety after dealing with it for over 8 weeks. The counselor told me about a Crisis Stabilization Unit near me. Only 10 beds, counselors, therapists, nurses, a psychiatrist, a room, 3 meals a day, all free. During the day we could leave to go anywhere as long as we were back in the evening. Apparently these units are located all over the country. Maybe there's one near you. Good luck.

@RaevynWynter I think it would make you a little bit better if you try to find out if there is a service for this in your community. You can write a diary or grow a pot of flowers. Turn your attention to life and regulate your routine. Sometimes, late at night can make you sad and prone to overthinking and insomnia. Even sleeping during the day is not as good as at night. I hope you get better because you deserve it.
