OCD creeping back in?

Hi members!  I’m isolated due to a disability and becoming what I believe is obsessive compulsive.

I have two darling dogs to keep me busy but whenever I see a tiny hairball I am compelled to go after it! Same goes for specks of food on a dish or something minute that otherwise doesn’t matter. The thought of these sit at the top of my priorities list. I’m wondering if I should not try so hard to be perfect? How do I take the power out of obsessive thoughts? Are there any suggestions, methods, books on the subject? I’m here by myself most of the time due to a disability. New to my area and rely on my husband a lot.

@resourcefulGrapefruit5459 thanks for reaching out, grapefruit. Sorry to hear that you're having to cope with OCD - it is very challenging, but there are strategies to manage. You had asked for suggestions, so I've linked to the 7cups guide to OCD, which gives lots of ideas and further resources. It's notable than you mention feelings of isolation and the stress of a recent move - both of those can be factors. The guide suggests staying busy, and you have your two dogs, so that's a huge plus. Connecting to others is also very helpful in distracting us from compulsive thoughts. You are very welcome here, please know that you have the support of this community and you're not alone.

Hi, grapefruit! It sounds you are going through so many things at the same time! Trying to balance the disability, the compulsions, the thoughts, the darling dogs (A+ for the comfort they provide you), the exhaustion... it's perfectly understandable why you'd have the obsessive thoughts. Feel free to check in the 7cups guide to OCD; there is also a community that discuss about OCD, you'll connect with fellow people going through something similar; that might help too.
