Adjustment Disorder
Hi everyone.
Need everyone here to help, cuz everytime i get a job interview, at first i get excited, but the more i think about them, the more nervous i become.
The more I researched about this company, the more I get anxious. And then...the interviewers consist of Senior Management and Management.
I get nightmares from failing the interview already, gasped for breath and get headaches and surppressed panic every day leading up to the interview. To the point where I cancel.
Please help. Thanks.
@gentleSailboat5040 Hello Sailboat, sorry to hear you've been struggling with anxious feelings at the prospect of interviews. Anxiety can be very debilitating, and lead us to further avoidance of the event or situation that causes it, which ultimately only serves to compound our anxiety. Are there any strategies you've already explored to address this, such as relaxation training, mindfulness or meditation practice? The quickest way to calm the mind is via the body. I've linked to the self help guide on panic ttacks, which is an introduction to diaphragmatic breathing and progressive muscle relaxation to reduce SNS activity in the moment. It also looks at compiling anxiety hierarchies along with systematic desensitization training - both of which over time reduce prospective anxiety, by gradually helping to regulate the nervous system so that it no longer feels threatened by the stressor in question. Hope this helps, Sailboat - wishing you every success with your job applications!
