Anxiety
I've been feeling really anxious this week. I mean I'm anxious all the time but it's usually for a specific reason or triggered by something but this week I've been constantly on edge for no apparent reason. I've been skin picking and biting my nails again and feel so irritable and agitated. I can't seem to focus on anything and feel overwhelmed by it all. I went out earlier and this women saw me and started yelling at me because I'm Muslim and she clearly didn't like Muslims, I've been feeling very unsettled and feel like it's going to be even harder for me to go out now after that negative encounter
@Faith237 Aw, I am sorry to hear about your negative feelings and experience. You don't know why you are feeling anxious? Would you be willing to explore things that might help? Also, it can be difficult to bounce back after such a difficult social experience! You definitely did not deserve to be yelled at 🙁
Hello @Faith237,
When one is constantly anxious,
it might be because one is either in fear of something and/or situation,
it can also be one is in stress.
It is advisable to seek therapy to identify the underlying cause.
You may like to consider the following:
- focus on your breathing with Diaphragmatic Breathing (DB);
a coping skill you can apply immediately whenever you start to feel anxious.
- you can also use Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR)
at home or in a private space to relax your tensed-up muscles.
- Another technique would be Guided Imagery (GI);
placing a comfortable "visual" in your mind to relax.
You may also like to drink less coffee during the day, especially before sleep.
As well as carry a small item with a lavender fragrance to relax.
Last but not least,
you can consult a doctor for a prescription that helps to reduce racing heartbeats,
but such medication may not be suitable for patients with a heart condition.
Certain medications can also be sedative and not suitable to be taken in the daytime.
Please do declare your medical histories to the doctor.
Lastly, concerning the negative experience you had about
someone yelled at you.
The person might be hysterical,
just walk away and do not engage for your safety.
If you are living in or visiting an unfriendly neighbourhood,
stay vigilant at all times.
Approach the cop (if one is nearby) if you feel you might be in danger.
Alternatively, call the police or go to the nearest police station.
For your reference.
