Anxious attachment style
Hi ,
I’m aware that I have anxiety attachment issues and it cause to do controlling over my bf. Can you share your experience about healing when you are in a relationship?
@proactiveFriend
HI there. I have, perhaps, an interesting view point on anxious attachment.
When i first learnt about attachment styles, I totally fit avoidant. But recently a new therapist got me to retest. And it came up as anxious avoidant. At first I was very unhappy at the idea I was clingy and controlling. But gradually I saw it as progress - at least I wanted relationships now, even if I had poor skills at managing them. And I could learn those skills. It's already helped me to spot what I'm doing when things are going awry, and take a step back.
As for what works to change it, I don't really know yet. Maybe we should meet back in a year and compare notes, lol.
@proactiveFriend Hey thank you for being vulnerable and bringing this up! I think your awareness of the attachment style you have is so important. We can't change or do better if we aren't willing to accept that we need to change. It sounds like you have a great start! That's half the battle!
