Calming down

I have been in an anxious state for 3 days straight. It feels like an anxiety attack that won’t end. I can’t sleep. It came to a point where I snapped at my boyfriend today, he didn’t deserve it.

My methods of soothing anxiety attacks aren’t working. Writing makes me feel worse, music makes me feel worse, I’ve walked over 6 miles and I still feel anxious.

What are your methods of soothing yourself?

Hello misconstruedmelon,

I'm sorry to hear that you've been experiencing such prolonged anxiety. It's important to find effective ways to calm yourself during these times. Here are a few additional methods you could try:

1. **Deep Breathing:** Focus on slow, deep breaths to help regulate your heart rate and bring a sense of calm.

2. **Progressive Muscle Relaxation:** Tense and then relax each muscle group in your body, starting from your toes and working your way up to your head.

3. **Guided Imagery:** Visualize a calm and peaceful place, engaging your senses to create a relaxing mental environment.

4. **Grounding Techniques:** Engage your senses by focusing on things around you. Describe objects, textures, and colors in detail to bring yourself back to the present moment.

5. **Mindfulness Meditation:** Practice mindfulness by focusing on your breath or sensations in your body. Gently bring your attention back whenever your mind wanders.

6. **Aromatherapy:** Use calming scents like lavender or chamomile to help relax your senses.

7. **Warm Bath or Shower:** Warm water can be soothing and help ease tension.

8. **Talking to Someone:** Reach out to a friend, family member, or therapist to share your feelings and seek support.

If your anxiety continues for an extended period, it's important to consider reaching out to a mental health professional for guidance and support.

Take care,

Jack

I would explain it in three brief sentences

1. Be gentle to yourself

2. Do not keep following the loop of sad thoughts

3. Disconnect from people, things and songs which are triggering
