Daydreaming and self hate
I have always day dreamed from as long as I can remember, all sorts of things almost like I was re creating parts of my life, as a child it was having the pick of toys, as a teenager it was about the way I looked and what my circle of l friends would be like. As a young adult it was about what car I would drive, house I would live in, now it’s about money, what job I have. Where we would go on holiday, how I would decorate my house if I had a better job.
I have a good life and all the things I’ve wanted have happened I am extremely lucky. But I constantly feel like it’s not good enough. I’ve always used it as an escape, I look forward to my commute from work so I can create the “perfect world” it’s never people I change, it’s always materialistic. I never knew it was a thing until I read an article and it stuck with me, and I’ve realised it’s so unhealthy. Has anyone got any tips on how I can step away from this and how to enjoy what I have around me without obsessing over what I think would make my life “perfect”
@unassumingVase866 I'm not sure that daydreaming, and wanting something we don't have is really a bad thing as such! However living in the moment is also important, taking time to be mindful of a pretty sunrise, a bird's song, the rain on your face, just trying to appreciate those moments. Can really help you. Also writting a gratitude journal helps many people ❤❤good luck with everything ❤
@Tinywhisper11 thank you. I think a gratitude journal sounds like a really good idea. I will definitely give that a try.
@unassumingVase866 good luck with everything ❤❤ we are always here for you ❤❤
I too used to day dream. That was just as you described, in my case it was mostly about people in my life.. and i am realising it now.. momentary comfort and then lasting inadequacy.. but can't deny , the good feel when I m at my imaginary world with friends and family
