Feeling confused after a great first date — need advice on what’s normal
Hey everyone,
I (22M) recently met a girl (also 22) on a Catholic dating app. We’d been talking for two weeks and had two meaningful video calls before finally meeting in person yesterday. The date went really well — we spent about 3 hours talking deeply, opened up about some heavy life stuff, and both agreed it felt refreshing and real.
Before we said goodbye, she let me know she usually needs some space after emotionally intense days, and might not respond much the following day. I appreciated her honesty and told her I respected that completely.
Here’s where I started feeling uneasy:
Later that same night — maybe two hours after our goodnight — I noticed she was active on the dating app again. Not once, but a few times since.
Now, I know we’re not exclusive, and it could be habit or stress-scrolling, but it still felt off. If you say you need space, why turn to the app that quickly? It made me question if I misunderstood the connection, or if I’m just a bookmark while she browses around.
To be clear, I’m not trying to police what she does — I just value clarity. When something starts to feel genuine, I naturally focus on that person. It’s hard not to see this as a potential sign of low interest.
So here’s my question:
Is this kind of behavior common? Am I reading too much into it? Or could it be something to keep an eye on?
Would really appreciate thoughts from anyone who’s experienced similar dynamics.
