Friendships while feeling down and being anxious
My friends are planning a trip this weekend and idk if I should go. I don’t want to ruin the mood by feeling down, but then again I don’t want to cancel because I feel like I cancelled to much things lately. I feel like I can’t talk to them about how I feel, because I don’t wanna be a burden to them, but tbh I also just don’t know how to open up. The last few weeks I haven’t been the best friend to them and I think I owe it to them to explain myself, but I’m just to anxious to do it.
I feel the same way but when givin others some advices it’s easier to talk about it. So I think if they are real friends they will get you. You don’t need to tell every detail about your feelings. You may try to tell things that you feel more comfortable with. Let’s say you don’t cancel and you feel down. They prob see it and then ask. You can just say i feel down but let’s not ruin the vibe here and try to have fun. They prob understand. Because most of us had to deal with those stuffs. Or if you wanna talk about it just say it and feel free. After talking you prob feel more relieved and you can have fun after that. Try to think what if it was your friend who feels the same as you now. What would you feel and think? What would you prefer them to do?
First of all, thank you for your answer/advice :) I don’t know if that makes sense, but I feel like I haven’t told my friends for so long about how anxious and sad I feel at times, that it seems weird to tell them now. Additionally, I don’t want to be a burden to them, like they have lots of stuff to deal with on their own and I don’t want to be another reason to be upset. Tbh I also wouldn’t know what to tell them, because there is no real reason for me to feel this way, like no specific explanation. I just feel down for a while and then be better again, so maybe talking to them won’t even help.
I hope my answer will be soothing. Ofc you don’t need to do anything i advise as you know. I don’t know anything about your friendships and your life. I absolutely understand your struggles. Cause I’m already struggling with this. They are your friends you’re not a burden and you won’t be even if you tell them your mood. They prob care about you. If you’re not allowed to talk about how you feel what else you talk to them. I’m not trying to be harsh btw. You’re absolutely free. If it doesn’t seem right to talk then you shouldn’t. I think it doesn’t seem to weird. Cause ofc your friends have been there too. Let me tell you one of my memory. One time I used to feel very uncomfortable to meet my friends. But I was doing it. After a meeting I used to feel very well. Then one day I told my friends that I was feeling bad about meetings but I was coming. Then they said they sometimes feel exactly in same way. I’m just saying your friends may have felt as same as you. You don’t need to feel like a burden. You don’t need to feel weird about what you do about your feelings. You don’t need to talk to them neither. Put yourself first. If meetings makes you feel more down Then don’t do it. You can explain yourself. (You don’t even have to) Maybe you will be the first and then you may have a more strong bond and they share their feelings too. I hope these are calming words for you. As I said before these are not must dos.
Maybe you could just have a casual conversation starting from the bigger scale and then getting more personal if they ask questions Sometimes its hard to know how much to share so we don’t share anything. Start with apologizing for your mood but that it is because you have had a lot of anxiety right now. Then just see their response. If they want more information, you can decide how much you want to talk, just see how it feels.
