Homesickness :(

A bit of background to my story. So im 20 years old and I’ve moved away from my family to complete an internship and I won’t be home until the end of august. I have recently discovered that I am an introvert and don’t enjoy going out to pubs and clubs and being in big crowds of people.

i Also have the problem that I travelled over here with a girl from my college that i dont like. We live ans work together and pretty much end up doing everything together. She’s very outgoing and I feel pressured to do things with her. We have the same friend group over here too. We have housemates that I really like and get on with but she is mean to them. She’s Also a super negative person.

im Also super homesick. My mom is the only person that can help me in my anxiety and i Moss the comfort of being with her all of the time. I miss my grandparents too. I’m also super afraid that something bad will happen to the people I love while I’m gone.

I don’t know how I’m gonna get through the next 7 months of feeling like this.

Any advice on any area in this thread would be so greatly appreciated

@lovingBranch5395 Hi there, I resonate so much with you when I read your post. I am also an introverted person and enjoy doing my own things, hate small talk and things like that. My suggestion for you is to learn to say No to things you do not want to do - so I guess there must be times that this girl wanted you to accompany her to do things that you did not want to do, but you did not have the courage to say No. So I suggest, starting next time, you can speak up for yourself - I mean, nothing to lose right? You are currently in a city where you probably will not return back after the internship, so you do not really need to care about others' opinions, the worst-case scenario - you two won't talk to each other after this internship, so what? You have many other good friends waiting for you in your hometown right? One does not automatically get respected by other people, you need to fight for that sometimes. I also suggest you view this internship as an opportunity to change yourself - I am not saying introverted is bad, it is good in so many ways, but it won't hurt to try something new. It is actually easier to step outside of your comfort zone in a completely new space! Good luck!!!!

Thank you so much for this! This is really helpful I definitely need to learn to say no when asked to do thinks I don’t want to do! I have been slowly pushing my comfort zone and I do agree that it’s easier to do that on a new country. Im also starting to Do things myself to build self confidence! So thank you for replying xx

@lovingBranch5395 Yes, but please don't isolate yourself, and don't necessarily cut off ties with anyone b/c you never know what they might say or when you might need them for something, for example a referral, of course this probably doesn't apply to this person and you would probably not ask, but just for future reference. Btw this is only meant to help! feel free to ignore this!
