Hopeful yet realistic
I have struggled with depression and anxiety for over 20 years now.
I came from a home and culture with little awareness of it. I suffered silently for a long time before finding some pathway for help. I have seen many dark times.
Today I'm in a much better spot than I was. Mental health can improve. I am a living proof of it .
Thus I feel hope for the future. I think progress is going to be there. There will be good days. There will be continuation of good habits, beliefs and coping strategies. There will be new things to be learned.
Yet - I am realistic. I understand that my problems won't go away entirely ever. Life will keep throwing circumstances to me that will trigger me and I will have to continue doing the inner work as I have been doing.
It will all have a happy ending. But - the journey wont be linear- there will be ups and downs. To think otherwise is to be wishful. I wont choose that.
How do you foresee your mental health journey ahead? Hoping to learn about you.

I love this mindset! I used to think in black and white but I forgot to stay realistic. Your post is reminding me that it’s possible to be hopeful yet realistic at the same time!
