How did you know when you were done having babies?

I have an almost 1 year old little boy! Can’t believe it! He is such a blessing to my life and we couldn’t be more thankful for him in our lives. I’m just not sure if I want to have more children. We struggled to get pregnant with him and were super excited when he came along. I honestly thought I just wanted one before getting pregnant. A lot of people tell me “oh you will change your mind or you have to give him a sibling.”My question is how do you know when you’re done having kids? I had a very strong desire to have him. But I honestly don’t have a strong desire for a second baby. How do you know when your family is complete? Thanks for your time!

@nelsonpk4

It is different for everyone but if you feel confident this is it you will know ....

Trust yourself....... trust your feelings ...........peoples opinions should not affect you..

Will you feelings change down the road ?      no one knows... when i had my last we discussed it and i knew i was done....and that was it .

Dear Nelson,

I congratulate you for the blessing you have in your life: Your son!

It's a miracle, bringing another living life to this world!

Regarding the decision to have another baby or not, this can be very personal and vary from person to person.

What I am about to mention further, is only and only my personal view and I do not plan to dictate this point of view at all!

In your description, you asked an interesting question: When do you know the family is complete?

Dear,

The family is complete whenever pure love, respect, and support exist. It doesn't necessarily have to do anything with the number of people in that house. A house can have two parents and 5 kids, yet empty of love and compassion. YOU and your Spouse are the ones that make that family complete by your actions and reactions.

On the other hand, there are other important questions you might need to ask yourself or consider:

  • Why do I want to have another baby? Is it for my sake or others?
  • Am I ready to spend my time and resources on two babies at the same time?
  • Do I have sufficient knowledge and financial means to fully support two babies?
  • Do I have the knowledge to manage my first baby's perceptions of the second baby so they won't develop unwanted behaviors such as envy, jealousy, hatred, etc?
  • Does this world need more human beings or more enlightenment?
  • If I love raising kids so much, are there chances I can use my ability to adopt foster babies who need loving parents?
  • Do I know what boundaries and discipline I'm planning for this second baby?
  • Can I manage my intimate relationship with my partner having two babies at the same time?
  • Am I emotionally and financially ready for this?
  • Is this actually what I want? Or there might be other thoughts causing this desire?
  • and more...

To sum it up, please remember that 7 Cups and any resources on the internet are based on generals. To make sure you make the best decision based on your very unique facts, it would be great to consult a trusted and qualified family therapist. :)

Wish you the best,
