I just need support somehow

I won’t go into anymore detail about my parents. I have horrible nightmares about them. I just wish I could get connections and safety outside of my family, but I can’t. Who would want to be in my life after finding out how messed up they are? There are people in this world who leave very dysfunctional families and somehow find a partner who understands and supports them. I read their stories on reddit. I can’t even find a friend who is willing to understand and help. So every night I go to bed feeling a sense of doom and suffocation, like my life will just always be my parents, their dysfunction, and that’s it. No one else. Forever. I’ve worked hard as *** to get away from them, and physically I’ve succeeded in that. But I can’t form new connections.

I cannot imagine what this is like.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this with the people you should be able to trust the most 💖

Hi! I am so sorry you are going through these issues with your parents and feeling like you don't have people you can share your feelings with. If you ever want to chat, feel free to reach out to me. You are not alone!

That sounds complicated. Remember that you can also choose the family you build throughout your life. You didn't choose the family you were born into, but you can choose the one you'll have later. I know it's not easy living with difficult parents, but it's manageable if you want it to be. I know it can be hard to establish new relationships, but my advice is to be yourself.
