Loop of overthinking

User Profile: 67Flo76

I can't stop overthinking because I always have the impression that if I don't worry something bad is gonna happen.

For example if think I'm gonna get a good grade I can be sure I gonna end up with a bad one

If I think I messed up my test most of the time I end up with a good grade. This problem extends itself to anything in my life.

A few month ago I though that my friends loved me and that we were going to have fun at my birthday and now my birthday is coming up and I'm being left out they don't care about me. So now If I don't worry I worry something bad is gonna happen and I can't get out of this and strangely don't want to because I believe this too much

Hello, It sounds like to me that you are disassociating, I have done that before and the only way back to reality is by using logic thinking to disprove something. But sometimes the power of suggestion can have very immediate adverse effects. I used to think, when I'm suffering bad anxiety my TV reception was horrible, it was just way too coincidental!! My TV wouldn't bring in any channels when I was suffering bad asthma and anxiety mixed together. My asthma would concern me enough to trigger enough fear that it caused anxiety and then the anxiety would make it harder to breath and then TRIGGER WARNING I would have very bad fearful thoughts due to my not wanting to suffocate, I considered suicide - I've been on 7Cups about 5 years so far and have been going to therapy for about 4.5 years, plus I take the medications they recommended every night. Talking with people on 7Cups that have experienced the things I suffer with has helped me a lot. Just knowing we have a support team or at least 1 great 7Cups Listener that offers you helpful suggestions, and moral support helps greatly because then we don't feel so alone in the world. We are all in this together and we should all help each-other for many reasons, one of them being that helping others helps ourselves because we tend to give great advice and needing of those daily reminders. The sayings we tend to live by like,

"Those that mind, don't matter"

and

"Those that matter, don't mind"

Or don't let it rent space in your head. My therapist has become my closest friend and I totally adore her, and I appreciate her immensely. Keep reaching out and I promise you it will all begin to make sense! When you focus on taking care of the image in the mirror, you realize that first we need to really get to know ourselves and figure out what motivates us, and reinvent our interests and/or/hobbies. Finding your direction and purpose is the key to feeling whole. Having a support system of several people that understand about mental health issues.

Take some big deep breaths and find ways to really care for yourself. Self care = Self worth = compliments = confidence YOU'VE GOT THIS!!~

Blessings, Day

Thanks a lot for your response! I never considered dissociation could be one of my issue and I will look more into it now and get educated one the subject.

The more I think about it the more I have the impression that this way of thinking is in fact my way to control things because it gives me the impression that I can change the outcome of a situation by thinking the contrary of it. Therefore it's really difficult for me to drop out this bad habit of mine because stressing about a situation makes it easier to approach and not stressing will stress me even more. Its really weird because I know I don't have the superpower to control things and that I'm probably only looking for the signs that confirm my theory but I believe it a lot.

Talking in this thread and reading your responses help me since I can't afford a therapist on my own for now and I don't want to sound crazy talking about it with my loved ones

@67Flo76

I had the same problem. I worry too much. But sometimes i tell myself that if something is about to happen, it will happen. If i don't get anxiety for it in advance, at least i saved myself from some mental and body issues. I hope this helps from my personal experience. Feel free to tag me in your future posts and updates. Will be really glad to see you improving❤️

My sister told me a long time ago that "In a million years, none of this will matter" lol and when you get old there are never repeats on TV 😁

Haha. I heard the same quote. Anxiety is a mystery. It's hard to deal with honestly xd. But at least if we can help each other feel a bit better, well that's something. ❤️

@daydreammemories

I'm just minutes from having therapy on videotherapy and today's homework is due. My assignment was to write down "who I am, and then who I want to be" sounds easy but I've struggled with that and it is the basis of life. Our will needs to be empowered by an interest, and as we learn to focus we make leaps of progress. Talk with you again soon!`

Thanks for you response ! Your answer made me realise that a lot of time I also get anxiety in advance to be less hurt when the thing I feared happens. What happened between me and my friends really re-enforced my worrys about relationships. I have the impression of never being enough (mostly in romantic relationships) and so even if it's going good I have the impression it's not enough since it was also going good with my friends. So now I try to anticipate my break up because I have the impression I only have a few months left with my bf. And the dumb thing is I ask for reassurance but don't want to believe it since I think if I believe it we're going to break up( loop of overthinking)

Nevertheless thx a lot for your answer it makes it easier to know that I'm not alone and thx for listening to my worrys

@67Flo76

Hi, I'm always happy to help and your tag today led me to reread all of the responses and realize I needed a reminder. I was on day 119 alcohol free but drank 2 days last week (when my mental health took a bad turn and then at the same time I got some sort of food poisoning) So I thought drinking was a good idea, nope! I got very sick and suffered so I'm glad I got the reminder how yuck that can be. So today is my day 4. May I suggest that you read my prior responses one more time? I only ask because it helped me just now to remember what to focus on. :-)

You are special and need to learn to treat yourself that way, with more care and real love for your own well-being. When i learned that, I began to give a *** again and now I'm back on track again. We need focus and self care!!

Blessings, Day

You're right I read your response and I realise I had some trouble understanding some aspects. I struggle to practice self love a lot. I also wonder what made you think that I was dissociating because I read a little bit about dissociation and I don't really understand it or relate to it. And by chance do you have any tips to stop spiralling over an issue because when something bad happens in my life (even if its not horrible) I can't stop thinking about it and I struggle to do almost anything else (like homeworks for exemple)

Thanks a lot for your time and your responses

@67Flo76

Hello,

For me, disassociation is when my thoughts over-take my present moment even when I am supposed to be doing something else. Along with that, the thoughts we cannot seem to stop is called: analyzation paralyzation. I've been stuck trying to solve problems that apparently have no possible solutions, so it is my endless cycle of thoughts, what-ifs, discouragement; and it does paralyze us all. Have you ever been playing a game and everybody is waiting on you to take your turn, but you are almost oblivious to them for a few moments. My nickname was Oblivious lol Today was my 6th day without drinking. Keep up the great job communicating on 7cups with nice people. go introduce yourself to a few listeners. let me know how they work out for you.

Blessing, Day

Congratulations on getting back on track and not drinking! I understand much more about dissociation thanks to your response. That's truly what I'm doing. I have been oblivious as you said in games etc (if I understood the meaning of the word correctly) Im even so much in my thoughts (negative or positive) that my reaction time is so long. When someone tells me something my ears hear it but I don't notice it right away, finish thinking then the information comes to my brain, like if the thougts were waiting in line. I already tried listenners a few time who helped me when I was feeling really down but decided to try something new with this post to see if anyone relates to it. I just wanted to say that today is my birthday and I'm finally an adult in my country!

Happy day to you

Thanks a lot !

I love art !

Im happy for you for your week without alcohol !

Funny enough I started 7 cups because of a thing I did because I was too drunk and was overthinking horribly. (didn't drink much but it was enough for me to do embarrassing things)

On the bright note it really showed me what big regret was and I saw that as a lesson so now I'm way more careful with it.

Btw I just wanted to say that I love venting to you you're really conforting as a person

Thank you! Today was 9 days and going strong. I kind of embarrassed myself 10 days ago when the alcohol hit me to quickly but I regained my composure fast.

I hope you're having a good day.
