My Fear of Sleep

Lately, I’ve been trapped in something both strange and terrifying: a fear of falling asleep

It’s not simple insomnia, It feels like my mind refuses to surrender control, Each night, when I try to rest, my body tenses, my heart races, and thoughts keep me on edge,The fear itself keeps me awake until morning, and then exhaustion forces me into only two or three shallow hours of sleep during the day.

This cycle drains me completely

Fear blocks my nights

Sleep deprivation clouds my mind and makes me feel as if I’m losing touch with reality

The exhaustion then fuels even more anxiety

It feels as if something natural and necessary, sleep has turned into a battlefield, what should be peaceful now feels unsafe, and the more i resist, the deeper I fall into this loop of fear and fatigue.

@velvetfuneral That sounds thoroughly exhausting. If you can work out the reason behind it, through journalling or talking to someone, that will be a start to focus on.

For me when the stress piles up, it worsens my insomnia and I can have sleep panic attacks/nightmares.

I do some deep breathing, listen to asmr sound effects like rainfall, try to clear my mind and get into the mood for sleep.

If I've woken up suddenly feeling uneasy. I comfort myself saying it's ok, you're fine and then I listen to loud happy party music for a bit until I'm settled, then switch back to asmr and hopefully drift off.

I hope things improve for you so you can get the calming rest you deserve.

I’ve been experiencing the exact same thing for the past few nights. I wish I knew how to stop it. But I’m glad to know I’m not alone. I hope you are able to overcome this and find peace in sleep 🫶
