Upcoming surgery
My husband is facing the knee revision after a knee replacement, which was done on January 22. He’s in constant pain. He’s nervous scared. His personality has totally been affected by months of pain and anxiety. It’s hard for me to keep upbeat no matter what I say, seems to be always the wrong thing. Any advice

I'm sorry you are getting the brunt of it.
Your feelings matter too.
You are doing all you can already to support him, praying for a successful operation and for you to feel more supported yourself 💛

Dear Suzy ;
I went through this too. No matter how much I tried to reassure him, it just made him more anxious. My therapist told me reassurance has to come from inside him , not from you
So try switching roles. Act like you’re the worried one, and let him be the one who calms you down. If he’s anxious, be anxious with him. If he panics, panic with him too. You’ll see, he’ll end up reassuring you instead, saying things like ‘don’t worry, we’ll figure this out’ or ‘let’s try this so I can cope better.’ That actually helps him deal with the pain more than you stay calming him all the time.
Because sometimes when you stay calm or trying to calm him , it can make him feel like you don’t really understand how much pain he’s in.
Just don’t overdo the panic part , you don’t want to make things worse.
I hope you both heal and find happiness.
