Work.
Hello:)
So I’m still a high-school student, a senior. a few months left until i graduate. I recently just got a really good job, and it’s in the line of work that i dream of having. Every night though, I sorta just lay awake, thinking if i’m even suppose to be in this line of work. It’s a huge weight on my shoulders as a 18 year old. I’ve been dreaming of this for 3 years. Now that i’m here, im not sure. I want to spend the rest of my teen years, being a teenager(safely). But now i’m working almost all the time, 7am-7pm on weekends and 3:30-9:30 on weekdays along with school. Anyways, every night i have really bad anxiety. Like what’s to come tomorrow, is tomorrow the day i mess up badly? Sure I won’t know until i get to work.. but it’s so bad. I’m not a very fast learner, i have to be told a few times how to do something but i will understand eventually. and i think that’s the bad part. it’s gotten bad to where some nights, i plan to od or something, and text someone to go ahead and call 911 when they see the message. i’m not going to do it, the thought just kinda.. lingers. i’m not ready to work an adult job, mentally or physically. anyways, to sum it up.. i think i regret getting this job. i’m gonna try to sleep now, goodnight!
@Foxtrot039 New jobs are stressful! Especially new jobs that are important to you. It sounds like you have a ton on your plate right now as well. You may learn more from this experience if you learn how not to worry about messing up at work rather than being a teenager. You may also (potentially) have more freedom in your adult life by putting in this work now - a life that your peers might envy perhaps. Of course I don’t know you or your situation, but I would suggest you give yourself at least six months to decide about the job - that’s kind of been the point where my own comfort at a new job started to kick in. Best of luck!
@Foxtrot039 I'm really sorry to hear that you're feeling this way. It sounds like you're under a lot of pressure, both with school and your new job. It's completely normal to feel overwhelmed, especially with such a demanding schedule. It's important to prioritize your mental health, and I encourage you to reach out to someone you trust, like a friend, family member, or a counselor at school.
