tips to help anxiety at the dentist?
hi! im still trying to get used to going to the dentist, and the sound of the drills and the feeling of when it gets near a nerve makes me feel very bad, like i want to crawl into a ball. i have an appointment soon and although my dentist is lovely and she takes good care of me, i still hate it because its a very unpleasant sensory experience for me. can anyone offer tips that have helped them? i dont mind how weird they get, i just need ideas 😓
Hello 👋 i have extreme social anxiety and im working on exposure therapy, your post is one of my baby steps, first its a great deal that you have a dentist that is loving, caring and understanding second, you should let your dentist know you have anxiety about the drill and things the dentist's knowing about these things dose help, although my anxiety is not due to the drills and things like that ,I still have anxiety because I'm around people for me i have a fidget ring and a fidget bracelet and when im scared i play with them and when the nurse or doctor go to drill i tray to breath through my nose and calmly remind myself its ok i also sometimes do a hand squeeze if i forget this things sometimesits my phone i squeeze and fidget with. But i think understanding that the kind dentist has ur safety in mind is a good thing to think about, i know my anxiety isn't like your but i hope these things help 🩷
Oh and my dentist always tells me if i need a min to let him know or if something hurts or doesn't feel right.. im sure if urs is understanding she will let you do the same... you got this❣️ you can do it
