Hello everyone! I"ve suffered from anxiety for years, starting in my early teens. It was pretty bad for a very long time... I just wanted to say that things have gotten much better, and that there is hope for all of you! I thought I'd be stuck with this for life, but I am progressing more and more each day. Hang in there, and work towards your goal. It really is possible.

Hello everyone

well I am having a pretty bad day so I guess this is worth a try :) I am 23 and suffering with social anxiety, and it seems to have got worse the last few years and has made me very isolated. Also in the last year I began to suffer with depression ( which I think is partly due to loneliness) I remember before having the social anxiety I used to go out a lot, had friends and I was HAPPY! I try to stay positive and think (hope) that one day I will be like that again but on days like today it's very hard to see it ever getting better! I know there must be so many people in the world just like me and it would be lovely to have some advice, tips or even just hear your experiences with social anxiety.

thank you for taking the time to read

xx

Hi. Your situation sounds a lot like mine. I am 27 and have had social anxiety for the past 4 years. I remember being such a social person, then one day I felt anxious in a social situation and it just spiralled out of control from there. I used to love to meet new people, but now I find myself constantly worrying about whether people are judging me, am I going to say something to make myself sound stupid, am I going to embarrass myself or offend someone and end up causing a confrontation. I am a kind, caring, friendly person so I know I shouldn't worry about these things but I can't seem to stop it. I always find myself judging myself on how well I performed in social situations, did I look or sound anxious, will they be able to tell i was nervous etc. I just feel like I can't be myself when I am anxious, I can't be the fun, carefree me who my close friends, family and boyfriend see. I have good and bad days. I have days where i feel more confident and I can socialise and be myself and then other days when I want to hide myself away and avoid any situation that makes me anxious. I hope this makes you feel at least a little bit better. I find it always helpful to know there are other people feeling just the same way as you. You not going through this on your own :)

Hello! I'm Lyssa and my anxiety has been "under control" for almost 8 months. I used 7 cups a lot anonymously when I was struggling a few years ago, and I used the advice of listeners to join CODA, get therapy, and really turn my life around. It's not gone, but it's definitely under control. So, that's me in a nutshell!

I have only discovered this community today, and I already have high hopes of this helping in some way. I have always suffered with crippling social anxiety, while also longing for human interaction. I have long dealt with depression, yet these days it comes in episodes, I am far better now than in the past. Even with the depressive episodes, the only thing that really holds me back is the anxiety. In the past year or so, the social anxiety has grown to become more of just general anxiety, about everything. I am hoping to take the step to chat with a listener, but even making that step is very hard. Posting this is very hard, but I feel some sort of security here that I think I may go through with it. Every time I attempt a new interaction, I eventually back out of it. I just want to be at a point where my social anxiety does not control each and every action I take. So this is a step, and if I manage to post this and not hit back, that's an even bigger step...

Hello there- I am 37 and was diagnosed with GAD about 10 years ago. I generally lead a very good and productive life without excessive anxiety, but occasionally I have "episodes" where my anxiety levels go up dramatically. The past 2 months have been pretty rough, although I am seeing noticable improvement in the past 2 weeks. Things got pretty bad and I decided I needed more intensive help and entered an outpatient anxiety treatment program. Its ACT based, which I have found incredibly helpful. Has anyone else used ACT therapy to treat their anxiety? The mindfulness exercises are especially useful. Its really nice to be part of a community with others having similar issues.

Hello there. I just discovered this site and I'm hoping it'll help. I have had anxiety and depression for as long as I can remember. I was diagnosed with PTSD in high school. It's very tough to deal with, especially since I don't want to talk about it often. I feel like I could be so successful if I can overcome this. It's just hard. I am really great at starting, but I get so overwhelmed by thoughts I never go through with anything. Let's see if I can stick to this.

@FoodMommax3 Hello and welcome! It's great that you've decided to join us :) Continuing with things when you're feeling overwhelmed can be really tough, especially when you have so much to deal with. However, it sounds like you really want to succeed and I think this is a great place to start!

I have suffered from anxiety for about 10 years now, but have not seen anyone about it (yet). If it's really bad then I will actually be sick, I used to throw up everyday before school for about 5/6 years and at major events such as my high school prom, all my exams, my uni exams etc. I also have other things I'm dealing with but the main thing at the moment is my anxiety.

crying Hi it's a new day new struggles. But I'm a struggler of anxiety not on a daily basis but on the days I do have it it's pretty bad. I have always woke up in anxiety attacks, on daz that I feel one coming on,i just go lay dwn, listen to my southern gospel music&fight my thoughts. Why not? It doesn't get any easier the longer I stay up,i cnt focus, concentrate bc the thoughts keep my mind so bogged dwn. I am a married for 33 yrs, I hav 2 adult sons&6 gkids in which I raise one.iv had her since she was 13mnths she's now 10.5.i have alotta issues going on,alota that just occurred this year&its extremely hard to handle. My main heartache is that iv helped raise all 5 of my gkids but the one tht needed me the most I couldn't help bc of my health issues.im a chronic pain sufferer bc of nerve damage, fibro, cfs, ddd, hbp, just a whole host of things, but the pain is why I had to give him up(and to be honest, his devious/muniplituve compulsive, abusive mother or carrier should I say) but I already his sister, so raising them together would have been ideal but see,the lil girl has severe ocd, anxiety&adhd, then when he was living with us,she developed aggression toward him bc she felt her life&home had been invaded, she felt the only ones she could ever trust and no would be ther for her had been taken frm her, so her aggression got worse over time, to the point I had to pull her off him several times, he 3 now she's 10.5.so I just couldn't take it,at the time he was here hers meds were screwed up&shed hav meltdowns every single day, well aftr about a month of seeing that, the 3yo would start acting tht way when he was in trouble or didn't get his way, like she did. IDK no one in the family would take him bc of his mother,i had times that bc his dad was being controlled by his mom,if my son didn't do wht she wanted she'd threaten to lev or tell him she had somebody tht would so&so if he didnt&those action eventually landed him in jail while she was out here doing what drama she could do. But at one point my son comes crawling up on my porch with a big hole in his heD(and at this time, he's got a warrant out for his arrest, so he's wanting me to fix his had, then he'd lev) all while if someone seen him here, my kids could be snatched up. Things like that I suffered for 6mnths dealing with. This child's mom cn work the system to her advantage and my son knows tht,but why he won't lev&stay gone frm her,im not sure. He does suffer&self medicated from adhd&severe anxiety, along with ocd probly. But bc I was very young she I had my kids,i thought the problems we were having was me so I sought help for 18yrs. But when I got my gdaughter I seen the signs then she's she got in school it was brought to my attention, but she's doin gud now although the med combo Shes on helps alot they do have ther side effects and does cause sum ocd symptoms to bcome worse. But other the other hand, I cnt take care of myself, my gdaughter or/&my husband on daz like this much less taking care of a toddler. And not being able to keep my home clean&organized is a reason my anxiety has gotten so severe. I'm so dependant on my husband tht it makes feel so guilty. I just feel like a failure in the most horrific way in every thing in my life. Iv gained weight to the point I no it has effected my life terribly. I need so bad to just be able to break out of these moods, but are they legit, do I have reason to feel guilty that my grandchild although very happy is in a foster home now bc I couldn't dal with raising him, his sister, chronic pain&things in my life that I already couldn't accept. I don't anymore, aftr we took him in to raise,i already was caring for my only sister that had a stroke,i wS caring for my youngest gdaughter(born in Jan)well while having him and all the stress of stretching myself beyond measure,i had to stop caring for both my sister &my grandbaby, then I gave him up, we'll to get revenge his mom calls DFACS on me to have my gdaughter iv raised, took outa the only home she's ever known. All bc she had access to her son while he wS here thru my son, but when he went to foster care that knocked her time den to 2 hrs a week which she's already list her parental rights bc of heroin. But while the child was here his caseworker signed me up for every resource she could think if. Well that brought the lil girls mama in the pic, so now she's gone and signed all the papers to give up all her rights to my gdaughter, hey only child. How in the hell can somebidy just sign over a child bc she can't pay 100$ a mnth to help her. I cn hardly sleep bc if the guilt I hav from giving up NOT MY CHILD but my grandson. IDK maybe I need serenity in my life bc thers alot that needs to change but I don't no how to change it, then thers sum things that I cnt change that I need to accept but dnt no how on that.
