Fireworks and Loud Noises
Ever since my family's abuser left 3/4 years ago, I haven't been able to really stand loud noises. My startle response is still really heightened, and certain sounds/phrases make me feel like I'm back with my abuser. I can't watch fireworks because I just feel jumpy and jittery, they're too loud and practically terrify me. Tonight, when the fireworks were going off, I had a bad panic attack. I laid in my bed and tried to calm down, but I could still hear the fireworks. It was hard to calm down.
Besides spending the night in, what else can I do to avoid this same flare-up next year? Also, what can I do for the unexpected loud noises that send me into counting my breaths?
@AnAceWriter I am sorry you had that experience. For me, earplugs can be useful. If you can afford it, there are also noise-cancelling headphones that are amazing. Neither completely block out the sound (depending on how loud) but it can definitely cut down the volume.
Hope this helps!
