Flying and turbulence

So recently I've developed some pretty bad anxiety around flying, something I've done my whole life and used to actually enjoy up until my most recent flight. We flew near a typhoon and the turbulence was so bad, people near me were yelling. Despite flying alot I have not ever experienced turbulence that dramatic. I'm about to fly home again and I cannot shake the thought that I might go through that again. My hands shake and I feel like crying thinking about being on a plane. I'm scared to death that we could crash. Just want to know if anyone has anything similar. Logically, I know that air travel is safe and that planes nowadays are built to withstand much worse than what I experienced, and the pilot has probably done this a thousand times and knows what hes doing. But that one voice in the back of my head says otherwise...

@Fiercekat It can be difficult to shake off a persistant voice like that. I know that I have a few thoughts in my head that I can't get rid of no matter how much refuting logic I throw at it.

It's been a while since you posted this. I assume you got home safely since this was posted. But how has your anxiety about flying been in general? Have you travelled anywhere since? Are you avoiding travelling because of this new fear?

I'm here if you would like to talk but it seems that if you need to travel and you can't lower your anxiety before the flight. It might be a good idea to talk to a doctor and talk about your options with medication. Perhaps you'll find a solution there.
