Needle phobia; overcomed.
We can all do it.
I suffered from needle phobia almost all my life until two years back I went to a psychoanalyst for therapy.
He diagnosed me with anxiety and referredme to a psychiatrist to asses whether I needed medications.
Anyway, I have refused to take medications and to fight this onmy own.
And I won, I overcomedmy phobia and now I can simply draw blood without fainting.
That's awesome!
I have something similar.
It's called blood-injection-injury phobia.
I faint when getting a needle, going to doctors, seeing too much blood, or just simply talking about anything medical/biological relating to the human body.
The only thing that is helping me get better is to face all these things head on!
It's a struggle each time, but i'm slowing getting better and overcoming my fears.
It helps to relax your body when you are getting a shot. I know it use to take 3 people to hold my daughter down to get a shot. Now, she has a short moment of losing control and crying for a little bit and then she gets the shot. She says that relaxing her arm always helps and she realizes it is not as bad as the anticipation of the shot. My daughter also likes to know ahead of time so she can mentally prepare if it is at all possible. She seems to be able to tolerate it much better when she can mentally prepare, however, the other day she had to get a shot without knowing ahead of time. I am glad to say she is making much progress with her needle phobia but it is still there.
I am actually glad tou are facing it, cause true the only way to end the battle is by facing the truth.
I am very happy you shared; it means a lot.
thank you and stay strong.
@Ayanna Would you be willing to chat with me about this as it relates to self-injections?
