Scoleciphobia/Vermiphobia - Fear of earthworms

I don’t recall how it started but I’ve always had a fear of earthworms. They look nasty, slimy, creepy. When it rains I dread going outside and when I do I always look at the ground and those slimy ugly creatures are as long as my feet. Three weeks ago, my boyfriend was taking me to work and I didn’t realize it rained the night before. Once I stepped outside I saw them, I went into a panic attack and couldn’t move. I tried hopping to avoid them but slipped and almost busted my face on the ground, fortunately I didn’t but I twisted my ankle which is still healing 3 weeks after and hurt like crazy.

My boyfriend thinks it’s ridiculous to be scared of them but whenever I try to explain he dismisses it and tells me to get over my fears which annoys me to no end. Yes it’s an irrational fear but I can’t help it. April to May are my worst months cos it rains a lot and they come out all the time, mostly because there are lots of trees and it is needed because I live close to a highway. It’s been affecting my quality of life and I don’t know what to do. I remember going to work 3 years ago with a ziplock bag full of salt to pour on those vermin. Whenever I mention it to someone, they laugh and think I’m crazy. I hate worms and every slithery creature out there.

I am sorry your boyfriend doesn't understand. I say it is a bit like if someone is having a heart attack or cancer and you tell them to 'just get over it'. Phobias often require professional help to overcome.
