Hi guys today is my birthday, All day I couldn’t help but feel it was a bittersweet occasion. I can’t seem to figure out why I feel upset, or choked up about turning 18. I read articles online, and nothing seems to relate to how I’m feeling about this. It’s just deep sadness, it might have to do with being anxious about the future, but that doesn’t seem to be the worry. I just feel the overwhelming need to cry, and can’t explain my feelings to anyone. Ugh, im getting frustrated with myself which isn’t helping. However im taking it hour by hour. I’ll try to be patient with myself/ distracting myself by reading. Thank you for reading my confused feelings.

I think what you're experiencing is natural. Aging and change are naturally scary, whether or not we can put it into words. I remember feeling depressed when I got my period for the first time. And now that I'm older and my husband and I have decided to try to start a family, I have worries about how I'll feel if/when I become pregnant. We are creatures of habit and change is hard. Media and pop culture seem to focus on the positive, portraying everything as a reason to party, and I think this adds to the frustration you're feeling. You're 18! Officially an adult! Everything says you should be on top of the world. But you're not, so in addition to feeling upset, you now also feel like there's something wrong with you for feeling the way you do. But there's not. It's okay to be sad or emotional. And we're all confused. It's what makes us human.
