Anxiety Flaring Up :(
I'm struggling a bit at the moment with some anxiety. I know this might sound rediculous but I cant seemt to stop my brain- My boyfriend has gone back country camping with his friends for the weekend and wont have access to phones/wont have the ability to message me and that is totally fine. He is coming home on Sunday, and he said he would message me as soon as he has cell service again. I am SO worried that something is going to happen to him- and I am already feeling the panic of not getting a message from him on Sunday (which would just confirm my fears that something happened)
Logically, I know that he is with 4 other guy friends and they have all been doing this for years, so its not like he is alone. I know that chances are everything will be fine- but my brain wont let me let the worry go. My brain ALWAYS jumps to the worst case scenario 'what if he dies and I never see him again?' 'What if something bad happens' and those thoughts seem to take over any positive thoughts I try to instill. I keep telling myself not to worry until I ACTUALLY have somethign to worry about...but that doesnt seem to be helping
Its Friday morning....I have to get to the end of the day Sunday and I have no idea how I'm going to do it.
@Pixie13 I totally understand the anxiety - I can feel this way sometimes too. Having fear of the unknown is normal and you can get through this. It'll be Sunday before you know it!
Instead of focusing on what you don't know, like the outcomes of the trip, focus more on what you do know.
- he's with friends
- he's probably having a great time
- he promised to message you as soon as he can
Dealing with anxiety is all about refocusing your thoughts. Focus on what you know and repeat it to yourself as much as you can, kind of like a mantra. God forbid something does happen (though I have faith everything will be fine), please know that you can get through whatever obstacles that may come your way and that you have the amazing 7 Cups community to support you and bring you back up. You can get through this. Sending love, prayers, and positive thoughts your way.

Don't forget to make time for self-care. <3
@EleNergy Thank you :) I just keep telling myself that everything will be fine...I will definitely hear from him, and I will see him later Sunday night when he gets home.
My brain is flip-flopping back and forth- sometimes its seeing the logic and the reasons not to worry, other times its just grippign with me with the fear that I will never see or hear from him again
Im going to keep up with the positive thoughts and hope they stick :)
@Pixie13 I totally understand the whole brain flipping and flopping back and forth thing, but yes, do your best to stay positive. You can do this!
@EleNergy Thank you for the support, I really appreciate it!
I went to teh gym after work which helped a little, but then I broke down crying when I got home...I let it happen because I felt that by crying I could release some of the worry and tension. I've been moderately worried since then, which is an improvement from earlier.
If you dont mind...I might just update my thoughts and worry levels on here in this thread until I hear from him Sunday. I Understand if no one replies to me, but I truly do appreciate the support :)
There are lots of us thinking of you. I too had a panic attack today. I am still beating myself up over it because it was so foolish. You just do the best you can with the coping skills you have been given at the moment.@Pixie13
@bestVase7265 thank you for the support, I really appreciate it
im currently trying to keep myself calm...it's after 5 and I haven't heard anything...though he did say would would be evening. But still my brain won't calm down, I feel like I'm never going to hear from him again and in so worried :(
trying not to panic but it's so so so tough
You will make it. Keep the faith.@Pixie13
@Pixie13 Sorry I didn't see this sooner and I've been all over the place - but it's great that you used exercise to release some of that stress. That always helps me a whole lot. Crying can definitely be good too - it's cathartic and can provide a release of all those feelings building up. Hope things are going a little better for you, stay strong!
@Pixie13 I know anxiety can be difficult to manage, however I have had it as well. If you'd like an understanding listener, please message me and check out my profile,if you'd like.
