Anxiety Sucks! My story

March 27th, 2016

Here's my story. So about 10 years ago, I tried magic mushrooms. Best experience ever. The next day, I did them again. Worst experience ever. Had a total mind trip and started having panic attacks from my experience. As time went by, things were much better. Fast forward 10 years, its happening again. Panic attacks, at least that's what I think they are!

So. I woke up one morning and just freaked out. My legs felt numb/restless, my hands and feet appeared to be very pale and distorted like the shape of a mitten. My fingers felt like they were stuck together and so did my toes. All of my muscles in my entire body tensed up and I started to go grazy. My heart racing, my brain racing with thoughts, I quickly turned the light on and felt like I needed to get the blood flowing in my legs and feet. I went outside and paced for a good 10 minutes and eventually started to calm down. This happened Two weeks ago. Everyday since then, I wake up very anxious and expect to have a panic attack.

I got so freaked out with my heart racing that I went to the Emergency Room. EKG and blood tests nomal. I was given iv fluids due to dehydration and had a fever. Nothing was wrong with me so they sent me home. My heart rate now is in the 70s but its usually well over 100. I've been on Paxil for 9 years and amitriptiline at bedtime.

What is wrong with me? I'm worrying all the time and its just getting worse!!!! Am i crazy? I want the pain to go away so I can have my life back!! Thx

@Widiscgolfer

This does sound like a vicious circle, and I really feel for you.

You have a panic attack, which causes you to worry about future panic attacks, essentially to panic, and so it perpetuates. I have very little knowledge of panic attacks, but it strikes me that you could do with breaking this circle.

So how to do it? Are there some distractions you could employ? Ways of avoiding the thought that you may panic? Can you rationalise that thought at all? How reasonable is it or likely to happen? How do you centre yourself in the here and now, rather than worrying about the past or the future? Can you reassure yourself by looking at what you've coped with without panicking, and draw from that strength? So focus less on your difficulties and worries, and more on your strengths and achievements.

I wish you all the very best in overcoming this. Believe in yourself.....you've got this ❤️
