Anxiety about online friendship
Right now Im kind of having really bad anxiety over a friend who stopped talking to me.
I have social anxiety and basically zero friends because of that. Like 6 months ago I started talking to someone online and we became friends. We literally talked every day and it felt really good to have someone that I thought was genuinely interested. It wasnt anything romantic although the messages sometimes got a little flirty. So a while ago I noticed that he seemed to withdraw a little from our conversations. A week ago he texted that he wanted to talk and he basically said that he met a girl and wanted to date her. I said he should definitely do that and that he deserved to be happy. He was glad I felt that way and said he wanted to stay friends. But we didnt talk anymore after this.
I really understand that hes seeing someone now and that he doesnt want to keep texting other girls even though we were just friends, but I still cant help but feel really bad anxiety cause I feel like he ‘left me as a friend and it became painfully clear once again that I have no friends. Not in real life and not online. I keep thinking about our last text conversation and cant seem to stop. I know its not healthy to be this way and I think it has everything to do with me being lonely/having social anxiety. Whenever I saw his name pop up on my phonescreen it made me smile and now my phone is as dry as ever. Ive cried a lot this past week and I dont know how to get over this.

I understand how you feel. A lot of people I've given my contact to don't actually contact me. It's also very much because I can be very withdrawn. I am sincerely sorry you have lost contact with the one person you felt conected too. It's times like this where a person would feel extremely lost. I hope you continue to seek comfort and accompaniment here on 7Cups, as I too am a lonely person. It can be hard to find people who understand us, and have the patience to care. But it isn't impossible. In the end, we're always going to have to learn how to be our own company until, during, and after we've found a friend.
If just one person in the world can be drawn to you, then there are sure to be many more.
Take care.
This is gonna be a reply to both of your posts, as I thought they were both great, sincere heartfelt posts.
I can definitely identify with this because I have the same problems with social anxiety and loneliness. I would spiral into depression because of it. Thankfully, Ive found a lot of friends and support on 7 Cups, which is becoming my second family. Ive also been getting involved with meetup groups and events and trying to make friends that way.
Try your best to make good loyal friends, but be yourself and not who anyone else tries to make you be out of fear of losing their friendship. Were all here for you on 7 Cups, too! 🙂
@faithfulCity9916 hello,
I understand how you might be feeling. I was in this kind of situation as well.
However, most of the time, it's not as bad as you think. They didn't abandon you; they simply got busy because there's a new, exciting thing going on in their lives. That being said, it doesn't mean they got bored of you and whatnot. Maybe they're simply waiting until they can tell you the good news. I personally do this, since I don't want to jinx the new, exciting thing that is happening in my life.
So take a deep breath, and tell yourself that everything is alright :) maybe text him from time to time to ask about this girl, if you miss talking to him. Good luck and have a nice day!
Similar issue...
I havent known how to cope yet. I become anxious several times a week. Still feel bad.
Its a little relife to see someone has similar issue with me.
Hope we can all get over this one day...
