I love my boyfriend so much. We’ve started a life together yet lately I have all these thoughts telling me to sabotage it. I find myself getting so angry about the smallest thing and we’ve started fighting over stupid things because I get so worked up. How do I stop trying to sabotage the best relationship I’ve ever had? I find myself constantly comparing our relationship to other couples around us. My partner is struggling to deal with my anxiety and depression blow ups

Hello erikah!

First of all, meditation, even guided meditation can help immensely in focusing your attention on what you need to deal with. Along with this technique you can also start journaling as well. Putting into words what you are thinking and experiencing will give you a roadmap as to where you are at in this relationship. And give you an idea where you want to go with it. Wait a few days and go back and read to yourself what you have written. You just might be amazed at what you have said and find the answer you were looking for.

Practice gratitude and self awareness. These two together will give you insight you may have missed before. When you practice gratitude, you begin to look at things differently; there are so many aspects in our lives we take for granted. When you start looking at these things in a different light, that's when we become grateful. Start by finding one thing to be grateful for, it doesn't have to be a big issue. Something small, like if you have pet. Feel how grateful you are for him. Keep that thought and find something else to be grateful for. It's amazing how your outlook on things can change practicing this.

Self-awareness is just as important. Being aware of your life and surroundings can give you an insight into how you fit into your world as well as his. Our bodies give us clues as to how we are feeling with just about anything. Listen to your body when you are around him and when you are not. Don't let your inner critic dictate to you. You do know what you need to do for you.

Self-compassion is very difficult concept to practice. We go right to saying to ourselves we are our own worst enemy. We are good at getting down on ourselves. Accept yourself and all your faults and fears that come with you. Remember that you have good qualities as well and celebrate them often. Others can see these qualities as well and will give you compliments on how well you are doing. Keep that positive attitude.

Lastly, always be honest with yourself. You can't move forward if you don't see the truth in yourself. If your mind starts sounding like a broken record saying your relationships won't work, stop and acknowledge that this is not true but a lie your mind is sabotaging you with. When these thought about sabotaging your relationship come to the fore, look at yourself, and commit to change your thoughts and behaviors.

You can have a long term relationship but you need to practice these techniques to see that the relationship you are in is the one for you or if there's someone else waiting out there for you.

I hope I've helped you today.

I’m going through the same thing you are. If you’re like me, then you might have anxious preoccupied for of attachment. Do you constantly feel anxious and always overthinking? Do you feel like you’re sometimes not good enough? Do you feel rejected and not cared for even though you give your all?

I think you can take a break and calm down for a while. Then start trying to get back the time you were dating. I believe you were all very sweet during that time. If you can retroactively succeed, you should be able to make a decision in your heart. Is such a small thing tolerable compared to his feelings for him?
