Anxiety over something stupid
I have really bad anxiety. Almost anything provokes it, even small stupid things.
I just got back from the grocery store. I was using Samsung Pay which always works but gave an error today. This lady behind me then says really loudly: "Guess someone e needs to call the bank and get her finances in order."
I used my physical card tied to the same account and got out of there quickly, humiliated. I have no reason to be humiliated. I know that. And she couldn't be more wrong. I am in an OK place financially. But I feel so embarrassed that she even made that comment and I didn't stand up for myself. And now my anxiety is racing even though my day had been mostly good, and I can't let it go. I can't stop spinning my wheels.

Some people are just rude and need to keep their mouths shut. But - they won't. You have no reason to feel ashamed because of a technology failure. That woman behind you is the one that needs to feel ashamed for not understanding what it means to be kind.
It's hard when things like that cause our anxiety to peak. And it's irritating, too. Sometimes I can just be sitting here and a thought will enter my mind and BAM - super anxiety kicks in, dizzy, sweaty, scared. I hate that.
I think it's at these times that people say we should practice mindfulness techniques. I'm working on that - it has started helping. So when you get into an attack you need to find something to ground yourself. If you're sitting down, be completely conscious of the seat you're in. How it feels. Hard or soft. Touch it. What type of fabric? That kind of thing. Just get rid of all other thoughts and fully concentrate on that one thing for a minute. It does help you step away from the attack.
@thoughtfulmomma Thank you. Your kindness and empathy is what is needed in this world. Your words have brought tears to my eyes, as I am not used to this level of understanding.
It's good to know that at the very least, I am not broken and others are familiar with what I felt. Your suggestion will be put to use the next time, as there will be another time. The city I live in, people feel entitled to make comments openly.
Don't let a turd stay in your punch bowl, flush her away. Find happiness in that you know not to act like that and karma will reward you.
