Anxiety right before bedtime, help!

Okay, so. I really need help 'cause I am at the point where insomnia and plain sleep deprivation sounds and feels like a good and viable option, I am dreading sleeptime, and I am afraid to take my meds. (I am actually starting to wonder if my meds are causing this issue, because I don't have the issue during the day.)

The problem is this "thing" that has surfaced in the past year or so. I take my evening meds, including antihistamine and melatonin for sleep, and within 15 to 30 minutes I get this bone chilling, cold, deeply empty feeling where I feel like I'm wasting my life and I will be alone forever. The feelings are so strong, I am also afraid of them and myself, and what I might do on a weak moment if they creep up on me then.

No amount of self-talk or meditation or breathing exercises work to alleviate the feelings.

Does anybody else have this and does anyone have any ideas what I could do (besides the afore mentioned) to help with this situation?

@onelastkiss

Hi, try reading the responses to sleep anxiety at patientinfo.com, or look in to "hypnophobia", which is a subconscious fear of falling asleep.

It's not something I've encountered myself, though I'd suggest you speaking with your doctor if you think it's caused by your medication. It might be it it might be not --better to be safe than sorry...

I will you all the best in the future, and hope you get to the bottom of your sleeplessness heart
