Anxious about the Holidays

The holidays can be a lovely time spent with family and friends, enjoying great food, company, and gifts. However, I get super anxious. I always feel so drained and super uncomfortabe at family gatherings, work potlucks and parties. I tend to feel alone and like the only person who is struggling with social interactions.

What are your thoughts toward this? Can you relate? What are some tips that help you cope?

@BreakFree246

All of the planning, scheduling, prepping, cooking, etc. wear me out. It's very exhausting. A lot of time when the house is full and everyone is talking and laughing, I just want to find a nice, quiet corner. Sometimes the best time of the holiday is at the end of the night when it's quiet.

I try to give myself breaks during events. Maybe it's going upstairs to use the bathroom (and stay in there an extra minute or two). Maybe it's just going outside for a minute and walk around the house. Those quiet breaks help me get through.

@thoughtfulmomma

I can definitely relate. I will put effort into making myself take breaks and not try to have it all together and please everyone. I am a perfectionist and a people pleaser so its difficult at times. Thank you, that's really helpful.

@BreakFree246 I mean... I have an eating disorder, so naturally holidays brings me lots of anxiety. Mostly bc of the food, but also bc of all the ppl being there, me feeling alone and all that jazz. Point is: I totally feel ya. I am introvert, so being at social gatterings drains me like crazy :(
