Anxious mess - finance/work

I literally got back into mental health services today. Things were okay. I had been hospitalized 3 times and was referred to a local community center for low-cost treatment. I got discharged on Dec. 27 because I stopped showing up.

I stopped showing up because my counselor was not right for me (I have been instructed on how to give feedback for this during my re-intake). Anyway, I got re-enrolled in services today and things were positive.

I came home and my boyfriend came home from work and told me that he was told this morning that he was laid off from his job and that tomorrow would be his last day.

He has a second job, but it doesn't pay enough. The job he was laid off from was our primary source of income for rent, bills, groceries, etc.

I don't have a job right now due to my severe anxiety. Getting back into mental health services today was my first step to help this. My boyfriend is extremely supportive, but now that he's laid off, I'm freaking out about income. I don't know how we will pay our bills and as of right now, I am unable to work.

I am not in immediate danger, however I am having a really hard time. I tried reaching out to friend but they are asleep. I tried a few apps but no one is active currently, so I've texted the crisis line.

I suppose I need a few encouraging words right now and a friendly ear.

Hello! I hate to make this sound so simple but, I just want to let you know that you will get through this. I'm sorry your boyfriend got laid off - that stinks. I don't know what country you're in, but if you're in the US, he can file for unemployment. It's not a ton of money, but it'll be something helpful.

The next step is for him to find a new job. And sometimes you have to take a job you don't necessarily want, but it will pay the bills until he can find the job he does want. I understand that your anxiety prevents you from working right now, but how would you feel about helping him find a new job? You can help him by doing some research and finding jobs for him to apply to. That way you're both helping, you're both working toward a new future for yourselves. Remember that - it's a new future - a different future than the one you had before he was laid off. It doesn't mean it's a bad future. It's different. This might actually be the best thing to happen to you and him - you just don't know it yet because you haven't allowed yourself to think of the positives.

You're going to be okay.

I can sense the overwhelming wave of emotions you must be feeling right now, given the circumstances. It’s commendable that you took the step to re-enroll in mental health services today. That shows a lot of courage and determination on your part.

The news about your boyfriend's job must have hit hard, especially at a time when you're just beginning to navigate through your own path towards better mental health. It's completely understandable to feel anxious and worried about the financial aspect amidst all this.

It's good that you've reached out for support. Even when things seem uncertain, remember, one step at a time. You took a step today towards bettering your situation, which is a strong and positive action. I’m here to listen, and I'm glad you shared your concerns. Your journey and your feelings are important. Please continue to share anything else that's on your mind. <3
