Been feeling a little tense
I was recently contacted by a former friend and have mixed/confusing feelings. For background, we had both expressed our love for each other long time ago. We would talk and plan out our whole lives while living in completely different states. We talked and she went through serious hardships with the suicide of a close relative; we still made efforts to be in close contact. She flew to meet me and I moved in with her, but it only lasted briefly. Shortly after arriving she said all the feelings she said to me was just drunk talk. I decided to leave. It was very hard getting over her, we tried to remain friends after I moved but it made me very tense so I stopped contact. Now she's contacted me again nearly 2yrs later, still saying we're old friends and that she loves me. I haven't responded and feel mixed up if I even should

So friendships with text/ chat whatever and we only see the best ... when we meet in real life and we get the whole thing several times it does not work out like in your case...... now 2 years after she said it was all drunk talk etc she may be missing the fun and excitement of they what if friendship.
Far too many when they have a setback or feel lonely seek out old friends trying to recreate what they once had .... unless you want to stroll down what if lane do not bother connecting

It's perfectly understandable to have mixed and confused feelings about reconnecting with someone who we haven't spoken to for a long time, especially people we have strong feelings for as you said in your post. It's difficult to find connections with people who live such a long distance away I am terribly sorry to hear of the hardships you've both experienced. Only you know the answer to whether you should attempt to rekindle this relationship with her, in whatever form that may take, friendships, romance or otherwise. You should consider how it makes you feel to imagine each scenario, as friends, as romantic partners or without a relationship at all before making a final decision.
