Being myself

I grew up very very shy which was only made worse by being bullied for not speaking. To make it worse, when I did speak people made fun of me. This caused me to continue to not talk for half of high school. Now im still friends with people I went to highschool with. They know me as the shy girl even though ive overcome the shyness completely. Every time I speak in a higher pitched voice or something as simple as that I have a friend who would over react and made a big deal out of me doing something "unusual" or unlike me which everyone finds hilarious. Im scared to be myself because I know my friends will make fun of me for that. Even if i did something as normal as dancing at a party, id never hear the end of it from my friends. Im sick of coming across as this boring person who no one wants to invite on a night out. I want to be myself around my friends, I just dont know how to do it without shocking everyone. Does anyone have any tips?

Hey! glad to have you here. Well, it will take time for people to accept the real you but it doesn't mean you should stop being the one you want to be. I would say do whatever you want to do. what you feel like doing. If you'd mask your real self because of others it would be waste of the person you actually are.

GoodLuck.

hi @JellyCats Many poeple dont realise how hard it can be for someone to open up especially if you a shy person. Being yourself is the best thing you can possibly be evn if i tmeans you are you. Embrase it , live it , own it.

Glad to hear that you have overcome your shyness, good for you. It must be frustrating everytime you allow yourself to let go, and you have others that remember you being a certain way, and you have to hear a negative comment or joke. You should be proud of yourself that you have grown as a person.

Hi, i'm really sorry that you are having friendship troubles. Maybe talking to a couple of your friends about how this is affecting you may help make you feel better in the long run.

You could also try talking to newer friends that didnt really know you back then, as they would be unable to treat you like your current friends are.
