Covid attacked my nervous system
I had a mild case of Covid in late February 2022. As a result my nervous system was attacked mainly my limbic system. I experienced the worst fear, dread, anxiety, depression, brain fog, loss of interest in things I once loved to do and the feeling that the world was going by without me. It physically manifested as burning scalp, muscle twitches/spasms, heart pain and palpitations and feeling weak in the core and legs. I describe the physical anxiety as a dread and itching anxiety feeling in my core. Just above my belly and below my rib cage. The first months I was terrified and felt like I was losing my mind. I’m a 37 year old husband of a beautiful wife and dad of 3 awesome kids and I was scared of being in my home. I was scared of the dark. I was constantly in total unprovoked fear. The dread and anxiety was constant and I didn’t even recognize myself. I felt like I was here physically but mentally completely checked out. I felt like I was watching my family go in and live life without me even though I was with them. I’ve tried everything I know to do to fix this. Including hyperbaric oxygen therapy (which was helpful in the early days), acupuncture, supplements to support neurotransmitters, high quality omega 3s, prayer, quitting caffeine, cutting way back on alcohol, trying to eat clean and breathing techniques. I haven’t discovered the cure yet and some things have. worked better than others like prayer and hyperbaric oxygen BUT the good news is I AM HEALING! It’s been nearly 5 months now and I feel like myself again. I feel present and even have little glimpses of being excited about the future. The bad news is I still have the horrible physical anxiety symptoms like the feeling of dread in my core, weak legs and burning scalp. Has anyone here experienced something similar post Covid? It’s been the most challenging season of my life by far and I know I’ll come through it stronger but it sure is hard going through it.
I’m really glad to hear that you’re healing!! Made me feel hopeful when you put in all caps “BUT I AM HEALING”! I loved it. Thanks for being vulnerable here. I would say that that being vulnerable is already anxiety inducing.
and yes I’ve had similar constant fear due to covid. And I’m so scared that I’m gonna get it again. There’s general fear of waking up…
