Customer left a weird note on the receipt and it
This sounds so dumb, I'm sure.
I'm a server and one of my first tables of the day was a woman all by hersel. I'd say 40-45 years old. Everything was fine. She was ready to order as soon as I sat her. She ate and left.
She tipped $5 on a $17 bill which is more than 20%, but she wrote "quack" on the receipt with my tip on it.
What the F is she trying to tell me? Is this new slang I don't know about? Is she calling me a quack? Like a joke? I'm not trying to overthink it, but what could it possibly mean? I looked up to see if there was a new slang definition, but it just shows the definition for quack as the sound a duck makes, or an ignorant person in the medical field. Is she calling me ignorant? I. Don't. Get. It.
@hello1987 I'm not sure what she meant but maybe she was just being rude? Something only she'd know. People are weird
@hello1987 That is weird. I've never heard of it but unless you had some conversation about ducks I'm not sure what the point of that note is.
The situation does appear to be little bit strange and you can only interpret what the customer was trying to express. Try not to let the event distract you from doing what appears to be a good job. In all fairness, she did tip you well. Some people seem to enjoy playing 'mind games' and this appears to be the case here.
When the lady left your establishment, it seems as though she wanted you to question the reason why the word was written on the receipt.
Maybe next time she visits - assuming she does come back - you could ask her why, expecially if she does it again. Do bare in mind, however, that she is unlikely to give a straight answer.
Some people have unique ways of communicating.
Admittedly. It does seem a little weird but that's people for you. Just think positively, remember that she tipped you well and don't let the incident preoccupy you mind. It's the way customer service work can be at times. You seem to be doing a good job.
@PaulShipmanSmith I like this answer...
@hello1987
The fact she left you a generous tip means whatever she was trying to say was positive. Perhaps the word the word was was Quick, but looked like Quack. If she meant something negative, she never would have been that generous.
@hello1987
Did you make a mistake on the bill? Did you offend her or make a mistake in serving?
