Dating
I am supposed to go on a date this evening and have some anxiety about this. What if she doesn't like me? What if I don't like her? How can I avoid awkward pauses in conversation? Do I try to kiss her on the first date? It all increases my anxiety level since I have not dated in a very long time.
Does anyone have any suggestions or could share ways that you got through situations like this?
Thanks,
-Reflection
@PreciousReflection It is quite common to have feelings of anxiety prior to a date, particularly if you have not been dating for quite some time. Try to keep in mind that you are both simply getting to know one another, so the pressure is not entirely on you. Having a few easy questions thought out beforehand can be a great way to lessen the chances of having to deal with silent pauses, and it is perfectly fine if the conversation goes slower, that occurs on every first date. When it comes to a kiss, just follow what feels right at that time. Concentrate on enjoying the experience instead of being flawless, and be nice to yourself. Being nervous only shows that the date is important to you.
@PreciousReflection hi reflection :) I believe that by now you have gone on your date, but I resonate with your anxiety. It’s very normal to be nervous when meeting with another person on a romantic basis. Remember that although it it’s important to keep things respectful and consensual with your dating partner, you should also be considering your own fun! It’s important to live in the moment 🌸
This thread started four years ago and continued till now as is 4 years ago, it seems all is ok. Date must have gone fine for both, I feel sure. Best of luck. Someday we all may be know what happened, so get ready to greet them and best wishes for them too
@PreciousReflectionIt makes sense that you would feel anxious about going on a date, especially since it has been a long time. A lot of people feel nervous about the ‘what ifs’ you mentioned. It can help to remind yourself that it is okay not to have everything figured out and that first dates are just a way to get to know someone. You can focus on listening, asking questions, and being yourself instead of trying to fill every pause. How are you feeling right now about the date?
Firstly, know that you are valuable just the way you are. It's impossible to find out who someone is on the first date so focus on trying to figure out their goals. Try not to have a physical connection on the first date because you don't know the person's status healthwise. If you get too overwhelmed then go to the restroom to gather yourself or look up a question on your phone that you may need help with. Be yourself 100% because that is who the person needs to like . Try to focus on light coversation and having fun on the first date. Whenever you feel nervous , tell her. The right lady will love your honesty. If the person disrespects you or is forceful at any point , kindly remove yourself from the date. Have fun and relax, you are enough!
@PreciousReflection It makes total sense you're feeling anxious going on a date after a while can stir up a lot of 'what if'. alot of people feel exactly the same way before meeting someone new. you don't have to be perfect or have every moment planned out. Most dates have quite a few quiet pauses, and that's totally normal. and you get to take things at a pace that feels okay for you and your date there isn't a pressure to rush things. you're doing the best you can while feeling nervous and that's okay and totally normal
I totally get that first‑date nerves can feel overwhelming, especially after a long break from dating. Before my own dates, I found it helpful to read a bit about others’ experiences so I felt less alone in the uncertainty, and checking https://zoosk.pissedconsumer.com/customer-service.html customer service feedback gave me insight into how real people talk about support and communication on the platform. It reminded me that everyone has questions and concerns, and focusing on being present and genuinely curious about the other person often makes conversations flow more naturally and eases the pressure.
@PreciousReflection
@PreciousReflection That sounds really nerve-wracking…. first dates can already be stressful, and when you haven’t dated in a long time, it makes total sense that your anxiety would spike like this. All those "what ifs".... whether she’ll like you, whether you will like her, the awkward pause...can really pile up in your head. I can imagine how overwhelming it must feel with the date being so close. You are definitely not alone in feeling this way, a lot of people go through the exact same thoughts before a date. What part of the date is making you feel the most anxious right now?
