Does it REALLY get better...?

I have been suffering from many mental problems for about the past year now and I have felt so hopeless and just not myself anymore.. It all started with getting a couple panic attacks here and there and then I was having them constantly.. High levels of anxiety rolled in and they haven't left since.. Then I started having issues with Derealization/Depersonalization and everything just feels so overwhelming.. Over this year I have gotten SLIGHTLY better. My anxiety levels are a little lower than they use to be and my panic attacks are not here as much.. But I'm still stuck in this feeling of derealization/depersonalization and anxiety daily.. I do not feel like myself anymore and I have become very depressed lately.. I do not have energy or motivation to do anything besides part time work (that I struggle with) and sit at home.. I feel very hopeless and it feels like this is it.. There is nothing left for me.. I just want some reassurance.. Does it REALLY get better? Because I feel like I will be stuck like this for the rest of my life........

I am sorry you feel that way. I really do hope it get's better!! I have to believe it will, because there is no other choice!! I try to say that to myself all the time "it has to get better because there is no other choice" some days I believe it more than others. You are not alone here... we all want it to get better, and this my friend, sharing is the first step... me telling you that you are not alone, helps me to believe that I am not alone either! make sense???

Thank you for your post it means a lot to me that people out there actually care.. I see what you mean and it is comforting to know that I'm not alone.. I also do have a bit of hope left that I will get better I'm just afraid that nothing will change and I will have to live this way for the rest of my life.. I'm trying to stay positive as much as I can and I'm trying to be patient with this I really am.. It's just difficult.. Some days are harder than others..

@ThatOneAnxiousGuy Keep going!. Sometimes it ebbs and flows. It has helped me alot to find this community-- takes the pressure off to feel one can discuss and claim things safely, AND know there us compassion care and people who truly hear you without harsh judgement.

If you can find a few tools to build a framework for yourself...I reccommend it. Like a personalized toolkit or lifeline.

It can be tricky to make sure you use it...espec when you are most in the middle of what you are feeling or experiencing....it can even feel like you're faking it.....

But over time ...it can give a leg to stand on even when you feel legless; and it can gice you a line and grasually, however lavoriously pull yourself out of the raging river and back to land you may not even be sure exists.

For me, some of mine are:

Soothing musix or binaural sound cds

Drinking water

Doing some deep breathing

NOT watching tc or using my phone/computer in the last hour before bed

Paying attention to what foods, habits FEED the anxiety or depression or obsessive thinking....and when I'm in a stronger state make sure I come up with and have readily ro hand my healthier, more supportive alternative.

It sounds like alot I know, and maybe almost impossible to do when you're deep down in it.

But keep trying. It's okay to fall down and get up again. Gradually you'll have your own framework and safety net of tools to rely on....things that come from your own inner knowledge of yourself; simple things that you can do even when nothing outisde you seems supportive...and you cam bring yourself back and go forward and get stronger....and so on.

You can do it!

Hey I just saw this great short clip video here on this site called "The Suppression Switch" It's really great and might help (kind about how things can snowball and build and about how we csn de-escalate that). I don't know if there's a resource page or how you'd find it. Just showed up on my Progress Path. ☺

Sorry if the other stuff was too wordy or if it felt like a lecture. Really just intending support.

If you like or are interested in binaural beat frequency cds, there are some awesome ones by Jeffrey Thompson (I particularly like a 4 CD set: Mind, Body, Heart, Spirit); and of course there is Kelly Howell (brainsynch.com). 🙄☺

Hey there friend. I've been through ups and downs a few times. I'm currently in a down, but I know it will get better. I know now I can just take each day as it comes (or hour or minute, whichever works best). And when I look back to a year or so ago, I know now that I had come out of a really dark place. I'm going through a period of grief at the moment that has made me spiral out again, but I know it will get better. Those small things that I do each day, like doing one little job (even if it is only half the dishes, or half the washing, or getting dressed before noon), they make it easier in the long run. Every once in a while I'll have a good morning, afternoon or even a whole day. And then they just start to get more common. It does get better. You are definitely not alone.

@ThatOneAnxiousGuy

there will be good days and bad days but focusing on the small steps and goals you can control and achieve will help.I've gone months and years feeling really good and then have had some really bad months. The more tools I learn to help deal with the bad days will only help to decrease the amount or frequency of having them.

Yea Im in the same exact position. Everyday It takes so much energy for me to even get out of bed, let alone work.. as for it ever getting better, I really dont know. I guess its different for everyone. Some people will completely recover, some people will have improved, and some I guess just dont change.. It all depends on your motivation to get better and try your hardest to find things that will help you. But Im sticking to treatment and thats all you could really do too since their isnt a cure, just ways to manage it I guess.

I also have terrible anxiety and I panic alot. I feel like we are all allowed to have bad days as long as you get back up and keep going. If you need to talk with any listeners there are so many through 7 cups. It doesn't need to be huge steps. Start small. Maybe try a healthy habit each day like going outside and taking a walk. Remember to care for yourself.
