Financial anxiety
Anything that can help with financial anxiety? I feel like my worth is tied to my poor financial health and being poor means ppl can abuse me.
@Orangecat5093
I really feel for you, and I want you to know you're not alone in this. Financial anxiety can cut incredibly deep, especially when it’s connected to self-worth and how others have treated us. It makes sense that you’d feel this way if being in a tough financial spot has led to people taking advantage of you in the past. That’s not a reflection of your value.
@Orangecat5093 One thing to keep in mind is that you are not alone in this. Financial stress can carry a heavy toll on anyone, but that does not mean your worth should go down with it. You will always deserve self-worth no matter what. You still deserve every good thing there is. In terms on the anxiety part, sometimes even small things like acknowledging your pluses, or even having positive thoughts can help ground you.
@Orangecat5093 thank you so much for sharing this post with us, it must be very challenging for you to feel financial anxiety while also feeling like people can abuse you for struggling with money challenges. Please know that even though your feelings are valid and humane, your worth is definitely not tied to how much money you have. Sadly, money is used as means in order to survive and live more comfortably, however, having more or less money doesn't mean anything. A rich person is not more worthwhile than a poorer person. What truly matters is a person's qualities. I don't know you but I can tell that you are a kind hard working person who deserves to be met with compassion. No one has the right to hurt you or abuse you. You are equally valid as any other person who might have more money than you. What truly matters is for you to know that you deserve respect. Sadly society can make a person who is struggling financially feel like they are nothing. The truth is that money are useful for basic necessities, for helping people, animals and the environment and for living in a more comfortable way. That's all, they are not tired to a person's in any way. What do you believe has made you believe that struggling with money gives other people the right to abuse you? Please know that we are here for you, you can always message people in this community, listeners and me. This is a safe space for you and we are here to listen and support you. I too am struggling with money so I know how feeling like you are worth less feels like. But I try to remember that the kindest people and the strongest people are not admirable for their wealth. They are admirable for their kindness and strength which are based on their hearts and characters. Would you like me to share some resources that could be beneficial for you while you are dealing with financial anxiety?I am not an expert but there can be helpful resources online
@Orangecat5093 I am sorry for what you are going through. I have been there. I have been there and poverty is bad. It affects you in more ways than people realize. I hope the following helps you, it took me a long time but eventually it helped me. It helped me enough to keep going to be in the place I am. Btw, I come from nothing so I hope you can sense some trust in my words.
1. It was easy for the voices in my head to turn against so I lost parts of myself when I would self blame. Try to validate your feelings. That this is really happening. On the days you are furious, its okay to be furious. To express it. Better out, than in. But, dont ever think something is wrong with you. Your finances are NOT a reflection of your worth.
2. Focusing on getting some type of qualifications like others said will keep your confidence on a good level and your eyes open and hopeful.
3. If you have people that could help you, there is absolutely no shame is asking for help. You do not have to reach your lowest point to be worthy of help.
4. Above all try to stay kind to yourself. This is not a fault of yours. This is a situation.
5. Work with a counselor for a job if you can or read articles. I am sure you are a great researcher and your mind is very sharp. Resources are everywhere and most actually have some good stuff.
6. A job is a job. I used to hesitate to go into hotel housekeeping because of stigma but it gave me a lot of freedom and stability. A job is a job.
7. Remember the things you can control.
p.s. Please know in no way am I trying to push you or discredit you. I know you are going to make it out of poverty. Even if it sucks so bad right now, doors will open for you.
@Orangecat5093 Thank you for sharing this post, it must be very hard to deal with the feeling that people value you based on your financial situation. We live in a world where, unfortunately, that is often the reality, but it never means you are less valuable as a person. Your existence, emotions and thoughts matter, regardless of the numbers in your account. Financial anxiety can eat you up from the inside because it's about basic security, but I want you to know that you're not alone. There are many of us who understand that. We may not be able to solve everything right away, but together we can share the burden and be each other's security while it lasts.
@Orangecat5093 I've felt the same way before. Your worth is more than what is in your bank account/job/title! What do you think has made you feel like your worth is based in your finances? How do you think you started to feel that way?
@Orangecat5093 I'm so sorry to hear that you've been going through so much. Having to feel that your worth is tied to your financial health is absolutely heart-wrenching and a lot to handle, along with the feeling that people can abuse you for it.
Please take care of yourself; you are absolutely more than money, and we are here to listen if you'd like to connect with any of the listeners, including me.
Take care!

Financial anxiety can feel so heavy, especially when it starts to affect how you see your worth. It’s okay, and completely understandable to feel this way.
But, your value isn’t defined by money. It’s who you are, how you show up, and how you keep trying even through struggles.
Be gentle with yourself, healing this kind of stress takes time.
that sounds incredibly nerve-wracking, the fear of becoming vulnerable to abuse. unfortunately, it's a worry that's becoming more and more common. you don’t deserve to be treated poorly, no matter your financial situation.
there are many strategies you can take to deal with this. you can choose to deal with the stress. many people write to deal with emotions (or do other forms of art like drawing/knitting/crocheting to take their minds off of it).
or you can even try improving your financial situation through things like certificates, licenses, etc! stuff that makes you more 'desirable' to employers might help out your financial situation.
whichever path you take, i hope it brings you relief. =)
@Orangecat5093 Hi there Orange, I am sorry to hear this. It is important to be financially independent and also fluent. Maybe some courses on financial literacy might help? I have little knowledge in this area.
