Finding a therapist
Hi all,
So I had a bit of an epiphany last year which lead to me consulting my family doctor and them recommending I go consult a therapist. I have no problems with going to see someone to get help and possibly live without the unneeded and sometimes overexagerated stress and worries I have.
My problem is that, over a year since talking about it, I haven't been able to contact any of my possible therapist choices. Like, I looked up some people and offices and I have a list of people I'd be down to consult. But I can't get myself to email them. I also can't get myself to ask my parents for help and I don't know why (they are fully aware of my meeting with the doctor and the recommendation for a therapist and why). I'm also picky and require my consultation to be in person because the idea of online or phone therapy scares the crap out of me because of no logical reasons.
So, I don't know if this makes sense, but how does one contact a therapist to make an appointment for a first consultation???

Hello,
I feel many people can relate to you on this!
The first step can be very hard to take.
So, it's very understandable that you are finding it hard to make the appointment.
Remind yourself, that you will feel better after doing it
and it is the first step towards your healing journey<3
all the best💛✨
@Anyone4wks I also disagree with online therapy. Because of covid I had to phone my therapist and it was just terrible, it's definitely not the same.
Finding a therapist takes a lot of work. I usually see their curriculum, their face and try to go to the one that looks the best. If I see that they are a good fit, ok, if not, I keep on looking.
I have an idea. You don't have to try it, but it's an idea.
Sit down with your phone or laptop at a time when you'd have time to contact one of your choice therapists.
Focus specifically on calling and making an appointment. Don't think about what you may talk about in sessions. Try not to think about how you sound or what words you should use.
You're just calling to make an appointment for someone who is a qualified therapist. It's no different than setting up dentist appointments.
You could even pretend you're calling for someone else while you dial the number.
