I totally understand what you are dealing with because I do the same thing. When we have high anxiety we feel every little twinge and make it into the worst possible health problem. May I ask what medication your doctor gave you that you are afraid to take? It may be more helpful than hurtful in terms of reducing your anxiety. I have Ativan that I can take when I am feeling really anxious. I cut the pill in 1/2 or even 1/4. Sometimes the 1/4 is enough to take the edge off and then I can relax.

This is a good place to come for support.

More often than not, the medication that your doctor prescribes you is catered to your health and your situation - usually it's a good idea to ask your doctor about the side effects, if there's any alternatives that works just as well without the side effects, etc.

However, I'm not an expert, so I don't want you to push yourself to take any pills you don't want to take. There are resources like the mindfulness exercises here on 7cups that can maybe be of some help, you can find them here.

Good luck and I sincerely hope that your anxiety becomes more manageable!
