Help ! Focusing on breathing

So I know I have anxiety for quite a while now. At first it was just me being depressed a little then when the depression was gone I started having panic attacks . When I learned how to handle them, I recently started fearing of stop breathing. Like I would only have a panic attack really rarely but I Am focusing on my breathing 24/7 and when I focus on it a lot I can hear it really loud and it alerts me because when I hear it it sounds scary and abnormal and I keep having thoughts that maybe I have something wrong with my lungs. It's really really hard to distract myself from thinking because even when I'm doing something it's always in the back of my head. I'm thinking of starting to take medication because I have it for years and I can't cope with it anymore and I feel like medication is the only way?

did anyone else experience something like this? Am I in danger or this is actually just anxiety? Will medication help ? I really tried everything else. But nothing seems to work and honestly I don't have any stress in my life at all I would say my life is close to perfect really the only anxiety I have is about my health and my breathing.

@cuddlyForest19 Hi there, I'm really sorry about your anxiety. Sending you hugs!! heart

I used to have a similar problem with focusing on my breathing too much while I was running. Since I was stuck in my head, I kept hearing my breathing and thinking something was wrong, but the only thing that was ever wrong was my anxiety! I eventually learned to keep my mind off my breathing while I was running by focussing on other things, like the movement of my legs, the trees, going up a hill, beating the person in front of me, etc. Listening to music also helped.

Aww, I can see how that would be hard because it's always in the back of your head because you're always breathing! Are there any things that fully distract you? Maybe drinking water really slowly, eating, or talking? If there's anything that works, maybe try doing more of that.

Have you talked to a therapist or doctor about this? They would probably know whether medication could help.

Having a "perfect" life doesn't determine whether you have depression or anxiety or anything. Anyone can have them. You don't need a reason for them.

I'm glad your life is otherwise generally good. :)

Best wishes. heart

@lovingBanana5204

hi

thanks for replying :D sadly the only thing that 100% fully distracts me is when I'm with my boyfriend for some reason I feel so happy and safe with him but we live really far from each other so I can only meet him a few times, and talking on the phone is not the same. Otherwise the other thing is sleeping. Sometimes I realize that I don't focus on it anymore but that's really rare . I did speak with doctors but honestly doctors in London are not too good.

They keep referring me to cbt when I told them that if I talk about it it actually makes it worse .

I really don't know what to do and it's making me go crazy.
