I hate these attacks

For the past two weeks I have either been very anxious of waking up every morning having a panic attack and dealing with them throughout the day. I try the whole breathing techniques and they just do not work for me. I do not like medication because medication made me this way. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Hopefully talking about them helps take their power away.

Hi I too hate panic attacks. I have experienced panic attacks during the last two weeks also. My husband lost his job and now I feel in limbo and now dealing with panic attacks. I feel that talking about the attacks helps me.

I'm sorry to hear about your paid attacks, I know it's hard. I've had lots of panic attacks. If you are just looking for ideas, a good standard approach is cognitive behavioral therapy. It is usually very effective for panic. Another idea, something that has worked for me before, is to look at panic as a specific "mode" that the body has for helping you deal with immediate unplanned threats to goals. So it's actually a very good ability to have. It is the negative judgement of panic that kind of makes things rough. Anyway I've thought a lot about panic and the following strategy seems to help me get through them quickly: if you are in a panic attack, think of something good, something you want to happen instead of something negative, like "I'm upset right now but at least (insert good thought)". Now when you think of the positive thought, you will feel just a little better. Maybe just a tiny amount. Focus on the feeling of feeling better. Celebrate that feeling in your mind. Being happy about feeling a little better will make you feel a little bit better again. And so celebrate that new increment of feeling better. Just repeat this positive cycle of thinking until you are out of the panic attack. I have gotten good at this. I had a panic attack with full body shakes and doing this snapped me out of it in about a minute and I found myself laughing afterwards. I have very few panic attacks now and they are rarely notable. Panic is only bad when we confuse it for a problem. Its not. It is a means of solving problems. Thinking about positive things and positive outcomes and alternatives is one way to naturally turn it off. So you don't have to worry about it. I hope that I've shared something helpful. Wishing you comfort.
