I need help

So I've been struggling with anxiety for about 8 years now and it's been up and downs. I've seen a therapist that managed to help me in the short term but in the end it all comes down to the fact that I'm the one that has to take action.

Everytime I have to go out with people that I don't know I get very panicky for no reason and lately it is becoming too much too handle.

My boyfriend moved to another city around 5 months ago and we have been seeing each other every two weeks or so. In a month he's having his birthday and he invited me to go out with all of the friends he made in this new city.

I know he really wants me to be there because it's an important day but just the thought of having to meet new people scares me and makes me very anxious. He knows about my anxiety and said he would respect my decision, but I know he would be very proud of me if I managed to come.

And it's always been this way, no matter what the occurrence is... I wonder if it would ever go away or at least get better... The only thing going through my mind right now is "why do I keep on trying if every time I still feel like I'm at the same starting point"?

Thanks anybody for taking the time to read this.

@Erika58 Sounds like the therapist you saw wasn't able to (or didn't try to) find out the cause of your anxiety and help you to overcome it, but just kind of handed the problem back to you. A good therapist should normally be able to help you find a permanent solution so you get beyond that starting point and make real progress. Unfortunately it can be hard to find a good therapist, and many people have to try several.
