Intrusive thoughts
Hello, I keep thinking about a past emotional (texting) relationship I had with a co worker, while I was married. Nothing ever got physical but we talked about it a couple of times. I haven’t talked to them in over a year and don’t work with them anymore. I’m married and I can’t stop thinking about this all of a sudden. It only lasted a week or so. How do I stop feeling so guilty about this…..my thoughts in my head are getting the best of me and I wish I could just turn the voice inside my head off…….🥺
I feel like its best to tell someone, maybe husband and explain that it was nothing just you two talked thats all and you regret it and feel very bad doing that and I think maybe he ubderstands you and what you did, it will feel better to get off chest when you probably want to tell him anyways because you feel like you do something bad to your husband when you do that with your co-worker
My opinion is to forgive yourself first for your actions. Sounds like you let yourself down as well. Thoughts can be managed with practice, when the thought arises remember you have forgiven yourself for those actions and learned. And think of something positive about yourself, your marriage, or the situation. Possibly that you didnt let it go to far, that's a plus.
I'm new and I'm not sure what the reply protocol is, but I have some experience with guilt. A few things to consider: Your current partner may be better off never knowing, so telling them can be selfish if it is only to relieve built-up guilt. I also like to remind myself that past me was basically a different person. Not to say you shouldn't feel guilt, but maybe a period of guilt is punishment enough. Either way, I hope you are able to forgive yourself! Life is too short to dwell on past mistakes for too long.
