Mind goes to the negative

Anxiety has been getting better, and today was actually a really good day. I woke up and wasn't panicked, which hasn't happened in weeks and weeks. I got a lot done. I socialized and got out. It was a really good day.

And then my brain kicks in and decides it doesn't like all the happiness I'm having and starts taking me down a negative path. So a light conversation I have with a family member starts getting analyzed, and it gets twisted into those "what if they are planning X, and what if they meant Y?" Damn you, brain!

It seems that the less active I am, the more the brain wants to kick in and be a jerk to me. :) But I also can't just keep doing and doing and doing all day long until I pass out, either. This brain and need to have a talk, and I need to win the argument! :)

@thoughtfulmomma

I am glad you overall had a good day and I am happy that you have found some insight. It can be frustrating when it seems like we make progress and find ourselves back in anxiety

Our minds are like monkeys. Hopping from tree to tree. It's in their nature. We can't change the nature of a monkey, for it will be swinging and playing and that is how they are.

Similarily our minds are the same way.

Instead of trying to control the mind, accept it. It is what it is.

You are not your mind, you are deeper than this.

Here is an exercise you can try:

Close your eyes and put one hand on your heart and the other on your belly.

Visualize a clear sky

Every time a thought comes in, see it as a cloud. Watch the cloud " thought", watch it float by the sky ( you)

listening to your breath.

This video is a good example of what I am talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TS06oKHNF1A

Let me know what you think after the exercise,

Namaste
