@Lifer

You have to be more specific than that. Not everyone would know what you mean.

Negativity rushes through my head louder at night... it makes it harder to sleep.

@Lifer Hey How are you?

I think it's harder at night because it's dark, everyone else is a sleep. You're alone, with yourself and the thoughts and voices in your head. Night is when the demons come out to talk and play. Everything always looks and feels different in the dark. Can't sleep, so you think and think, about nothing, about everything.

@mytwistedsoul You would think a person would be exhausted by all of that and sleep would come easily.

@Lifer Yeah you would, but I've never had that luck. You can be exhausted but as soon as you lay down, it's like a switch is flipped and you're wide awake. It really sucks.

Thanks for sharing. Because of you, I realized that having the TV on helped... from 12-2"30 I slept and then again from 2:40 until now, I l changed it up for my husband and listened to Ted Talks using headphones instead. Thank you

@Lifer Hey I'm glad you got some sleep. You're very welcome, but I didn't really do anything. Maybe it just helped to know you're not alone.

@mytwistedsoul.

Then thank you for that. Sleep does the brain wonders. Can I ask if you've ever taken St Johns Wort?

@Lifer Sure you can ask, I've tried it. It actually makes my anxiety worse. And melatonin for sleep give me a headache. Have you tried it or are you thinking of trying it? Sorry, that's not really any of my business. I mean, everyone is different so, it might work. Guess you wouldn't know unless you tried.

@mytwistedsoul. I tried St John's Wort last night and my face became very red and hot. I was wondering if there was a correlation or was this just a coincidence. I thought I'd ask if you've experienced the same side effect. I've only used tea with valarium. It doesn't last long.

@Lifer A quick google search says it can cause spikes in blood pressure, so maybe that's what caused your face to become hot and flushed.

@mytwistedsoul That's what I thought too. Thanks for the input. I'm trying to stay away from google until I have this anxiety under control.

@Lifer You're welcome, it takes practice. I still have problems with it. So try to be patient with yourself and keep trying. I hope it helps.

@Lifer

from what you have written, i can make out that you wish to ask why it's hard to deal with anxiety at night time. if this is what you're asking i can help you out :)

at night time, there are lesser number of distractions or srtimulants (like work, someone calling you, commuting from one place to another, talking to people etc). this leaves the mind with time and energy to wander off to the territory of thoughts and feelings which had been pushed back ( subconcious ) so as to deal with work effectively. now the human brain works in both magnificient and also funny ways. when your mind reaches a particular "pushed back" thought, it starts overanalysing it. along with that it makes connections between that particular thought and other repressed thoughts which may or may not be true. when all of this cascades back to the concious realm, feelings of anxiety, tension and worrying are ignited. as there are less number of stimulants at night time it is difficult to divert one's attention to something else which could help put these thoughts back to where they came from. hence it is difficult to deal with anxiety at night or in any situation where there are less stimulants ( riding a publicy transport alone etc).

hope this helps :) if you have any other questions please feel free to drop me a message anytime you want

take care

@Mountainmystic777

So the goal would be to get rid of those thoughts altogether and not continue to "push them back".

@Lifer i would say that resolving be better than getting rid of them. however, this generally takes a lot of time and at times professional help and guidance. for the time being you can try picking up some meditation exercises, especially breathing exercises and mindfulnes, as they will help you allow those " repressed thoughts" to gently pass without causing you much trouble or distress

@Lifer

Nope I completely get it. Im not sure if it really explains why or if it makes me feel any better but my psychiatrist told me this. It all stems back to our caveman days when nighttime was a serious threat. Its dark and would open them up to predators and nocturnal hunters. So now its just imbedded in our DNA that even though weve evolved and the nocturnal threats have changed, it still triggers your fight or flight mode quicker when the sun starts going down because youre preparing to protect yourself at night and from there any anxiety or negative thoughts or feelings register as a threat triggering that fight or flight significantly more than it does during the day.

i guess I just like having an answer that tells me its more than whats in my head. Its actu physiological too so I know its not just ANOTHER symptom of depression or panic disorder. Thats comforting to me at least.

@Dancingtay I can completely relate to that. Understanding allows me to be in control. And lack of control for me looks like anxiety...hopelessness in gaining control causes widespread panic in me.
