Nightmares from Stress & Anxiety

I can’t seem to get restful sleep, so I keep oversleeping on accident. I’m guessing that this is my body’s way of telling me that my dreams are too vivid, and I am not truly resting when I’m in a deep sleep. Does anyone know what to do about this? I’m terrible at having a sleep schedule. I work retail and my schedule is always different. I am a night owl and I love playing video games at night. I do eat late but not all the time. The nightmares are usually about what I am going to do with my future, and obstacles.

@TheJenInBlack

that makes perfect sense. i've experienced vivid and quite scary dreams from built up stress and anxiety before as well. i believe they are quite common! some things that have helped me with it are trying to keep a regular routine, trying to do some sort of exercise for release, meditation and deep breathing, and trying to focus on self care. i know you said the sleep schedule part is hard for you though! this is a resource you may want to check out as well that might be helpful: https://www.healthline.com/health/anxiety-dreams#prevention

Hi! Like the other comment or mentioned, exercise could help. Also, maybe talk to your doctor? Or any doctor? They may be able to suggest natural supplements like magnesium (relaxes muscles) or melatonin?
